WHARTON, TX, September 28, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Gary W. Bonewald, MEd, LP, has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. An Emergency Medical Technician, Paramedic, teacher and administrator, Mr. Bonewald brings over 40 years of experience in pre-hospital emergency medicine to his work teaching the next generation of first responders. As the EMS program director at Wharton County Junior College, he oversees all aspects of the institution's Emergency Medical Services Program, serves as lead instructor of the paramedic program, and is responsible for maintaining the school's certification from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). Before joining the faculty of Wharton County Junior College in 2014, he served as the EMS program faculty and associate chair at Houston Community College from 1999 to 2014.
Mr. Bonewald's interest in emergency medical services began when he was a high school student; a local EMS agency visited his school in search of volunteers, and he was eager to sign up. Following graduation, he enrolled at Texas Lutheran College to pursue a career in education, but felt called back to emergency medical services. Mr. Bonewald resolved to return to his paramedic education and commenced his EMS career in 1985. Today, he is certified as a Licensed Paramedic, and an Advanced EMS Program Coordinator.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Bonewald is exceptionally proud to have worked in a profession where he could help others; to wit, he truly enjoys learning and sharing his knowledge with his students. While his career has been filled with many memorable moments, he is most proud to have received the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award for community college leadership through the University of Texas at Austin in 2016 and 2023. He is also proud to have been named as the Paramedic of the Year several times when working at Wharton EMS. In 2023, he received the Faculty of the Year Award from Wharton County Junior College.
Well-qualified in his field, Mr. Bonewald holds an associate degree from Wharton County Junior College and a bachelor's degree in Occupational Technology and Industrial Studies and a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction - Instructional Technology, both from the University of Houston. He is the past president of the American Heart Association in Wharton County, a member of the National Association of EMS Educators, a member of the Texas EMS Educators Association, a volunteer for the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions, a volunteer for the National Registry of EMT's, and a member of the Wharton County Emergency Services District #3. Looking toward the future, Mr. Bonewald hopes to expand his institution's EMS program to be able to provide students with more opportunities.
