Inspired by his father, who served during World War II, and his three brothers who serve in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, Mr Downer dedicated himself to the U.S. Air Force for nearly 13 years before separating as a master sergeant selectee in 1989. Subsequently, he worked as a hospital supervisor and clinician at University Medical Center and as an instructor and supervisor with the U.S. Air Force School of Healthcare Sciences, where he worked for five years. Supported by years of professional experience, Mr. Downer is presently employed as a medical technologist with Southern Hills Hospital and Medical Center through which he maintains responsibility for diagnostic testing and chemical analysis.

Before embarking on his professional journey, he earned a Bachelor of Science in occupational education with a major in laboratory science from Wayland Baptist University in 1982. Over the years, he also studied at the Noncommissioned Officer Academy of the U.S. Air Force and the School of Healthcare Sciences and helped to rewrite procedural manuals for the U.S. Air Force training curriculum.
To commemorate his professional accomplishments, Mr. Downer has received several certificates of achievement through the companies with which he has worked. In a career filled with highlights, he is most proud of being the first in his family to earn a college degree and serve in the U.S. Air Force. Looking toward the future, Mr. Downer intends to semi-retire and serve as a consultant in the field.
