Upon graduating from Angelina Community College with an associate degree in nursing in 1975, Ms. Walker gained valuable expertise in the field as a charge nurse for a long term care facility in Lufkin. Following this period, she took time off to have 3 boys, while traveling with her husband as he served in the U.S. Army. As she began her nursing career again, she excelled as the director of nursing for another facility in the Woodville, Texas area. Between 2000 and 2020, she expanded upon her nursing knowledge and experience as a nurse surveyor and investigator for the Department of Aged and Disability, as well as through a certification in gerontological nursing.
Drawing on years of professional experience, Ms. Walker presently serves as a registered nurse with a Cantex facility. Throughout the course of her career, as mentioned before, her husband served in the U.S. Army, which also allowed them to live in different places and travel around the world. Though hard work and dedication have brought her far, she attributes much of her success to her passion for what she does. In order to remain aware of changes in the field, she aligns herself with the American Nurses Association.
Though her career has been filled with standout moments, Ms. Walker takes the most pride in serving at a nursing facility in Woodville. She had returned to work after 10 years of raising her children and was promoted to become the director of nursing within a year. Looking toward the future, Ms. Walker intends to continue her work as a nurse in order to care for the elderly in her community.
