He began his career serving as a chief warrant officer for the United States Army Reserve, after which he distinguished himself with the United States National Guard for more than a decade. Following the conclusion of his honorable service, Mr. Hurt became a unit manager for the Federal Bureau of Prisons, where he remained active until his retirement. During his tenure, Mr. Hurt helped supervise inmates at his facility, where he also ensured a consistent commitment to high safety standards.
Mr. Hurt is a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association. In recognition of his excellent work, he was inducted into the Century Club for his efforts in having taught more than 200 classes for the AARP Driver Safety Course.
Now that he is retired, Mr. Hurt enjoys quality time spent with his family and friends. He continues to work with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital as a donor. In accounting for his success, he had the love and support of his late wife, Ilse, who guided him a great deal throughout their 63 years of life together.
