With more than 35 years of excellence in electrical engineering to her credit, Ms. Ko has found success as a leader within the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) of New York City Transit. In this capacity, she serves as the Vice President and Chief Mechanical Officer for the Subway Car Equipment division of the organization. Proud to have achieved recognition as the first woman to serve in this role, she focuses her efforts on the maintenance of over 7,000 subway cars and work equipment while managing nearly 5,000 employees. She is also in charge of production oversight and the commissioning of approximately 4,000 cars for New York's subway system.
Prior to her current role, Ms. Ko initially worked for the MTA in the subway department before taking on the role of the Director of New Car Quality Assurance. She subsequently rose to become the Assistant Chief of Quality Assurance for the Division of Car Equipment.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Ko earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the NYU Tandon School of Engineering. In recognition of her excellent work, she was named as the Vehicular Technology Engineer of the Year for the New York division of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 2015. And in 2021, she was nominated and selected as an honoree in Railway Age – Women In Rail.
Having led a powerful legacy in her field, Ms. Ko aspires to serve as a role model for young women, inspiring them to succeed in their own career paths. As an Asian woman, she met many challenges in her profession, but persevered and succeeded in surpassing all expectations through hard work and determination. Within the coming years, she intends to rebuild her division after suffering from a lack of resources during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her ultimate goal is to help recover the agency and regain their prior prominence before she retires, at which point she plans to travel the country alongside her husband.
