With several years of experience as a surgical technologist, Mrs. DeFazio has found success as a registered cardiovascular invasive specialist with Jupiter Medical Center since 2021. Having served the medical center from 2020 to 2021 as a cardiovascular operating room surgical technologist, she has focused her efforts on working with cardiologists to conduct diagnostic, invasive, and structural interventions on cardiovascular patients. Christi and the entire cath lab team collaborate closely with the physicians to ensure each patient is receiving high-quality care.
Prior to her current role, from 2005 to 2012 Mrs. DeFazio made a career working in food and beverage service for the Sawgrass Marriott Golf Resort and Spa. Christi spent many years training within seven food and beverage outlets and attended the University of Central Florida for hospitality management. Mrs. DeFazio was ultimately promoted to food and beverage supervisor in 2011 overseeing the operations for all seven food and beverage outlets. During her role as food and beverage supervisor there was a loss of franchise ownership that led to a takeover by Goldman Sachs. This takeover was an eye opening experience and led to the desire to change careers. While searching for another career path, an interesting opportunity was presented while listening to K-Love radio. The surgical technology career was presented and struck an inner desire to explore. A decision was made to achieve an A.S. degree with Keiser University's Surgical Technology program. Upon graduation, Christi joined the Eye Surgery Center of St. Augustine in 2016 as a certified surgical technologist. In 2017 Mrs. DeFazio moved from north Florida to south Florida and acquired a surgical technology position with Martin Memorial Hospital. After working in specialties such as general, urology, vascular, neurology, and podiatry, she was given the rare opportunity to train as cardiovascular operating room surgical technologist beginning in 2018. By the end of 2018, Cleveland Clinic formed a partnership with Martin Health System creating a lot of internal chaos. To avoid the chaos Mrs DeFazio accepted an opportunity to take a travel assignment to train at the University of Miami Hospital as a hybrid catheterization laboratory technologist. The travel assignment turned into a full time opportunity which was subsequently disrupted by the Covid pandemic. An associate from Martin Health System called and offered an opportunity to join Jupiter Medical Center in launching a brand new open heart program. The decision was obvious and led to the current role working in the catheterization laboratory.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Mrs. DeFazio earned an Associate of Arts in Psychology from Florida State College at Jacksonville in 2003. She also studied human factors engineering psychology for aviation at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University from 2001 to 2003. She subsequently received an Associate of Science in Surgical Technology from Keiser University in Jacksonville in 2016. Well qualified in her field, she is a registered cardiovascular invasive specialist and a certified surgical technologist.
Outside of her primary career efforts, while in Jacksonville, Mrs. DeFazio volunteered in guest services for Celebration Church and joined the reach team with The Church of Eleven22. After moving to south Florida, she joined the medical team at Christ Fellowship Church Stuart.
Passionate about her work in health care, Mrs. DeFazio intends to continue her work with Jupiter Medical Center as they expand their services and modernize their facilities to help more patients and their families. Jupiter Medical Center has cultivated an environment for learning and success. She enjoys working with cardiovascular patients and plans to continue learning to become more adept in her field.
