With more than 35 years of excellence to his credit in educational leadership and military service, Mr. Kirkland has found success as an educational consultant since his retirement from the field. Having been self-employed in this capacity since 2017, he focuses his efforts on providing student services, human resources development consultation and accreditation reviews for schools.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Kirkland served honorably in the United States Air Force from 1984 to 2006. He distinguished himself in various roles during the course of his service, ranging from a Morse code operator to an information manager. Throughout this period, he was stationed at air force bases in Florida, Georgia, New Mexico, Colorado, and overseas at Osan Air Base in South Korea and bases in Italy and Qatar. He had several temporary duty assignments during his career. He held many headquarter staff roles, working closely alongside senior officers, air attaches, ambassadors, congressmen, and general officers.
Mr. Kirkland retired from active service at Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida having attained the rank of a master sergeant. In recognition of his dedicated service, he was honored with a Defense Meritorious Service Medal. He was also named as the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center Noncommissioned Officer Communication and Information Professional of the Year in 1998, the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center Noncommissioned Officer of the Year in 2002 and the 325th Fighter Wing Outstanding Senior Noncommissioned Officer Information Manager of the Year in 2004.
Following the conclusion of his military service, Mr. Kirkland returned to his childhood school district and began his career as a physical education teacher for St. John Elementary School in 2006. He rose to become the assistant principal for student services for James A. Shanks Middle School in 2008, advanced to the role of principal in 2011, being the first graduate of his high school alma mater to return as principal. He later moved on to East Gadsden High School and West Gadsden High School to serve as a school administrator in 2014. He went on to function as the student services administrator and counselor for St. John Elementary School in 2016, retiring in 2018.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Kirkland earned an Associate of Arts in information management from the Community College of the Air Force and an Associate of Science in business administration from Georgia Military College. Following this accomplishment, he attained two Bachelor of Science degrees in business management (Cum Laude) and human resources management from Park University (Cum Laude). He subsequently received a Master of Science in human resources development from Webster University and an Educational Specialist degree in educational leadership from Nova Southeastern University.
Fortified by a lifelong passion for teaching and learning, Mr. Kirkland transitioned to his career in education from the military by utilizing the skills he developed as an airman, including building camaraderie, morale and discipline. He intends to continue his work in this area, potentially as a public servant leader.
