Prior to this role, Dr. Block served as an instructor of pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University from 1977 to 1978, while concurrently working as a visiting senior scientist at the National Medical Research Institute in Bethesda, Maryland from 1976 until 1978, visiting faculty at the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry. From 2011 to 2014 he served as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Endodontics at the School of Dentistry, Meharry Medical College, Nashville, Tennessee. Currently he has been selected as a Top Doctor in Endodontics in Tennessee.
Dr. Block initially began his profession in 1975, serving as a research associate of endodontics at the University of Connecticut in Farmington, and as a lecturer of endodontics at Flint Community Schools. He subsequently continued his vocation as a clinical instructor at Virginia Commonwealth University, where he worked from 1975 until 1977. During this time, he garnered further expertise as a research associate at the McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond, Virginia, and in 1978 he served as a visiting research scientist at the University of Connecticut in Farmington.
In his career related endeavors, Dr. Block has contributed as a reviewer on the editorial board of the American Association of Dental Education, Journal of the American Dental Association, and European Journal of Dental Education. Additionally, he has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the American Association of Endodontics, College of Diplomates of the American Board of Endodontics, the American Dental Association, the Virginia Dental Association, the American Association of Dental Research, the American Association of Dental Education and many more.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Block pursued an education at DePauw University, where he obtained a bachelor's degree in 1969. Following this accomplishment, he earned a Doctor of Dental Surgery from the University of Michigan in 1974. He served as a General Practice resident at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine, Farmington, Connecticut from 1974 to 1975. He continued his academic efforts at Virginia Commonwealth University, College of Virginia, School of Dentistry where he completed his residency in Endodontics in 1977. In addition, he received a Master of Science in pathology in 1978 from the graduate school of Medical Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University.
