Drawing on 15 years of experience in his field, Dr. Faruqui is recognized for his work as an interventional psychiatrist at Keystone Behavioral Health, a rural clinic in Pennsylvania. In addition to his primary vocation, Dr. Faruqui also serves as assistant professor of psychiatry at Drexel University in Philadelphia.
Dr. Faruqui's interest in medicine was sparked when his grandfather passed away while he was in seventh grade; he felt helpless watching his grandfather's struggle with cancer and felt called to help people through their difficult times. After completing coursework in biology and political science from the University of Patna and the University of Delhi, both in India, he earned a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from Rajshahi University in Bangladesh in 2004. He then began his career as a junior resident at Safdarjung Hospital and VM Medical College and as a senior research fellow at All India Institute of Medical Sciences. As he continued to gain expertise in his field, Dr. Faruqui held positions as a medical officer for Pushpanjali Hospital and Urology Center and Maruti Suzuki Udyog Ltd, both located in Gurgaon, India, and then accepted a role as an extern with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
In 2011, Dr. Faruqui joined Virginia Commonwealth University Health System as a resident psychiatrist, where he was twice recognized as a Resident of the Month and earned a Medical Student Teaching Excellence Award. Upon completing his residency, he relocated to West Virginia, accepting concurrent roles as medical director and psychiatrist for Westbrook Health Services. Dr. Faruqui found that he enjoyed working in rural areas, where he could make a difference by bringing the most up-to-date treatments to the community.
Of his many career achievements, Dr. Faruqui is especially proud of his success utilizing transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a noninvasive procedure that uses magnetic fields to alleviate patients' depression symptoms. He attributes his success to his family, friends, colleagues and teachers, including Dr. Joel Moran, James Levinson, Dr. Ananda Pandurangi, Dr. Irakli Manea, and Chris Christopher Kogut.
As a commitment to his profession, Dr. Faruqui is president-elect of the Pennsylvania Psychiatric Society. Additionally, he is active with the Pennsylvania Medical Society, Neuroscience Education Institute, American Medical Association, Clinical TMS Society, American Society of Addiction Medicine and American Psychiatric Association. He is certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Board of Medicine.
