Now retired, Dr. Paschal led a distinguished career in education, social work and counseling that spanned more than five decades. Concluding his career in 2015 after 10 years as the owner and director of the Family Counseling Center in Atlanta, he provided pro bono services for individuals who were incapable of paying for services. Notably, Dr. Paschal was renowned for his expertise in marriage, drug and school counseling.
During an earlier stage of his career, Dr. Paschal worked in public school education, where he taught fifth-grade students at East View Elementary School in Americus, Georgia, from 1957 to 1959. He subsequently transitioned into becoming a counselor at Staley Junior High School and then as a school social worker for the Americus City System. Over the following 30 years, Dr. Paschal garnered experience as a coordinator of student services at Augusta Technical, the director of student affairs at Benedict College, and the coordinator of facilities at the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education. He also served as a counselor for Swainsboro High School in Swainsboro, Georgia, and Monroe High School in Albany, Georgia, as well as headed the counseling program at Albany State University until 2005.
Passionate about giving back to his community, Dr. Paschal is a past president of the Xavier University of Louisiana's National Alumni Association and the institution's Atlanta alumni chapter in Georgia. He is also a former lieutenant governor of his local Kiwanis Club, where he has been a member for more than 20 years. Among other involvement, Dr. Paschal is a member of Optimist International and the South Metro Atlanta chapter of 100 Black Men of Atlanta.
Prior to attending college, Dr. Paschal served in the United States Army, serving his country during the Korean Conflict between 1951 and 1953. He subsequently earned a Bachelor of Arts from the Xavier University of Louisiana in 1957, a Master of Science from Fort Valley State College in 1963, and a Doctor of Education from the University of South Carolina in 1977. Dr. Paschal also received certification as an administrator, teacher counselor and social worker in the state of South Carolina.
As part of his professional commitments, Dr. Paschal has been a member of several industry-related organizations, including the National Education Association, the American Counseling Association and the Georgia Counseling Association. He has also been active as a member and former vice president of Alpha Phi Alpha. In light of his exceptional undertakings, Dr. Paschal received a scholarship and graduate assistantship toward his master's degree. For his contributions to the military, he also earned a Bronze Service Medal.
