Frank Mann Honored for Excellence in Art and Education

Mr. Mann was named Artist of the Decade by the International Association of Top Professionals in 2020

    NEW YORK, NY, November 07, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Frank Mann has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. With nearly 30 years of experience, Frank Mann has exhibited an impressive career that includes experience as an artist, educator, writer and media creator. Ever since he was young, his artistic talent has been evident. His teachers became more aware of his talent each year and encouraged him to pursue a career in art. As he followed their advice and progressed in his abilities, he remained fascinated by vision and visual perception, which has driven the visual art that he creates to this day.

After graduating from high school in 1968, Mr. Mann earned a Bachelor of Science in life sciences/biology under the geneticist Dr. Leo Weeks at High Point University in 1972. Shifting his focus to a fine arts curriculum, he continued his studies at George Washington University, attaining a Bachelor of Arts in 1978. Mr. Mann supplemented his education and experience with studies in art history at Columbia University, going on to attend the Whitney Graduate Seminars in Contemporary Art at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York in 1980. The follwoing year, he was presented with a Master of Fine Arts from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Mr. Mann extended his education when he interned with the artist Dorothea Rockburne in 1986, where he gained exposure to various studio skills and more excellent knowledge of the artistic practice. Much later, he received an Honorary Associative Degree presented by the Accademia Italia in Arte nel Mondo Associazione Culturale in Lecce, Italy in 2017.

Throughout his professional career, Mr. Mann has held guest lecturing positions at the Corcoran College of Art, Pennsylvania State University, the Pratt Institute, the New School, Parsons School of Art and the New Jersey Institute of Technology between 1970 and 2002. From 2005 and on, he served in a similar capacity with Iona College, the Presbyterian Collegiate Church Center, Northampton College, Reading College, The Educational Alliance, the Interchurch Center and Palazzo Barbarigo Minotto in Venice, Italy. Mr. Mann also worked out of his studio, the Frank Mann Studio, for seven years, from 2012 to 2019.

Similarly, Mr. Mann had excelled as a visual artist with the Project for St. Cyril Church, the Coalition for Homeless Camp, Children's Friends for Life and Art Works 4 Charity, all located in New York, and Thorn in Los Angeles, California. From 1987 to 1988, he was executive director of Collaborative Projects, Inc. (COLAB), as well as the founder and director of Basic Arts Network from 1989 to 1990. In response to the crisis of AIDS, which he has been a supporter of for decades, he currently works closely with Association D'Aides in Paris and with Visual AIDS in New York.

Throughout the course of his artistic career, Mr. Mann has presented six major groups of paintings reflecting his research on visual perception. He is also credited with developing a model for illustrating the mechanism for structural color in nature. Having participated in hundreds of group exhibitions and more than 20 one-person exhibitions, all his work has received critical acclaim, with major exhibitions in New York, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Barcelona, Venice and Berlin. Galleries Mr. Mann has exhibited at include Luring Augustine Gallery and the Artifact Gallery of New York, Yvon Lambert Gallery and Cie, Moderne et Contemporain of Paris, as well as L'Agostiniana Galleria and the Borgo Gallery of Rome. Exhibited regularly in New York and Europe, his work is represented in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, the National Galerie in Berlin, the Museum of Modern Art in Buenos Aires and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Nice. To add to his feats, Mr. Mann was the illustrator of the book Nerves, and he wrote the text for the film "Eye of the Painter" in 1992.

To remain abreast of his industry, Mr. Mann maintains membership with numerous organizations, including the Association D'Art International, Americans for the Arts, the Contemporary Artists Guild and the International Association of Top Professionals. He has served as the vice-president of the American Society of Contemporary Artists from 2003 to the present, as well its art historian from 2007 to the present, and as vice president of Artists Equity from 2002 to 2016.

Abundantly awarded for his works, most recently, Mr. Mann was the recipient of the "Il David Di Michelangelo" International Art Award from Academia Italia in Arte nel Mondo Associazione Culturale in Lecce, Italy and the International Dante Alighieri Award from the International Contemporary Art Magazine in Rome in 2021, as well as being named Artist of the Decade by the International Association of Top Professionals in New York City in 2020. Among numerous other accolades, he has been honored by Effetto Arte Magazine in Rome, the American Society of Contemporary Artists, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Art Addiction Gallery in Stockholm and many more.
