Jaime Stiriz-Meyers Gives Clients a Calming Style Experience through Stilla

Upon being assigned a career project on cosmetology in high school, Jaime Stiriz-Meyers knew the field was her perfect career path. For the past two decades, she has grown to become a skilled cosmetologist and entrepreneur.

Ms. Stiriz-Meyers attended cosmetology school in 2002 and went on to excel as an advanced cosmetologist, master colorist and independent contractor for 22 years. With an entrepreneurial spirit and desire to further her career, she decided to open her own business, Stilla Salon Spa & Boutique in Sylvania, Ohio, in 2021. Trained and certified in multiple color systems, she enjoys using her knowledge to create exactly what her clients are envisioning when they sit down in her chair.

Ms. Stiriz-Meyers' goal with Stilla, which means "calm" in Swedish, was to provide a calm environment for the community, that no matter what is happening in their lives, they can come in and feel like they can breathe again. Ms. Stiriz-Meyers has encountered lots of different people through her work, which has offered her a unique outlook on life. These experiences motivated her to offer that safe place for others to land. She most enjoys helping people during this process, while also having the opportunity to express her creative side.

As a testament to her undertakings, Ms. Stiriz-Meyers has been spotlighted in the media throughout her career. Notably, she was featured alongside her salon on FOX 36 News during Women's History Month in 2021 and was interviewed by ABC 13 News in November 2021 regarding hair loss as a temporary side-effect of COVID-19.

Beyond the aforementioned media attention, in 2022, Ms. Stiriz-Meyers was recognized in the City of Sylvania's "Here We Grow Again" program, through which a tree was planted in her business' honor at a local park. Furthermore, she was presented with Toledo Blade Readers' Choice Awards from the Spa category, having also been a finalist for the Massage Therapist category.

In addition, Ms. Stiriz-Meyers was celebrated by The Toledo City Paper's Best of Toledo 2021 as a runner-up in the categories of Locally Owned Women's Boutique, Women-Owned Business and New Store. Nominated by Sylvania Advantage for the Sylvania Area Small Business Award that same year, she was the award recipient for outstanding contribution to the growth of the community by the Sylvania Area Community Improvement Corporation.

In addition to her primary work, Ms. Stiriz-Meyers has found success as the co-owner of a real estate company. In business with her husband, they maintain properties, rehab houses and are in the process of entering Airbnb. Licensed as a real estate agent in the state of Ohio, she also works for a local brokerage and assists their clients in selling and purchasing homes.

Reflecting on her career journey, Ms. Stiriz-Meyers attributes her success to her children, along with her desire to teach them that they can achieve anything they want in life. The advice that she can offer the next generation of businesswomen and cosmetologists is to never give up. Instead, she notes, pick yourself up, keep your eyes on your end goal and want it. To do so, she encourages people to educate themselves and remain focused and determined.

Looking toward the future, Ms. Stiriz-Meyers hopes to expand her business to have more locations and offer her employees further growth in their own professional endeavors. In addition, she plans to reach out to underserved adolescents and give them the guidance and encouragement they need through cosmetology.
