With more than 15 years of excellence to his credit in psychiatry, Dr. Brewton has found success as a child psychiatrist. In this capacity, he works as a child and adolescent psychiatrist for outpatient psychiatric services at The Amen Clinics. Since 2022, he has focused his efforts on seeing patients and conducting follow-up visits. He utilizes single photon emission computed tomography to show patients their functional brain activity and conducts neuropsychological examinations to help formulate a treatment plan for each individual. Additionally, he is a member of the Idaho Medical Association and the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Brewton began his career as a child, adolescent and adult outpatient psychiatrist with Sacred Heart Medical Center of the Peace Health Medical Group in 2011. He then joined Interlake Psychiatric Associates in 2015 and became the medical director and attending psychiatrist for the partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs at the St. Luke's Hospital System's Adolescent Day Treatment Center in 2019. Additionally, he had been a psychiatrist with the children's neurobehavioral medicine department at St. Luke's Hospital System from 2017 until 2022.
Prior to embarking on his professional career, Dr. Brewton earned a Bachelor of Science in neural science with a minor in chemistry from New York University's College of Arts and Science in 2001. He then attained a Doctor of Medicine from The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston in 2006 and was a general psychiatry resident at the University of New Mexico Hospital until 2009.
Dr. Brewton underwent a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry in 2009 and completed a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine in 2011. Well-qualified in his field, he is certified in general, adolescent and child psychiatry. While pursuing his education, he was a work-study research student at the Laboratory of Molecular Neuroplasticity under Dr. Efrain C. Azmitia at New York University from 1998 to 2001. He then was a summer research assistant for the Marine Biology Laboratory in Woods Hole, Massachusetts in 2002.
In recognition of his excellent work, Dr. Brewton was selected by the International Association of HealthCare Professionals as a Top Doctor in Bellevue, Washington in 2016. He was also the chief child and adolescent psychiatrist fellow and was named to the Eugene Magazine Top Doctors list in 2013. Over the course of his career, he has contributed a great deal of research to the field, including publishing an article about serotonin and brain development in 2001.
Within the coming years, Dr. Brewton intends to continue his work, including in the clinical setting, to help as many kids and families as he can. He is passionate about making a positive different in a child's life and is devoted to ensuring he can help children with neuroscience and medicine.
