Drawing on 35 years of experience as a criminal justice attorney with the law firm Sheridan, Dulas & Hunstad, P.A., Mr. Sheridan is distinguished for his expertise in driving-while-intoxicated (DWI) laws. A dedicated and tenacious attorney, he attributes his success to his innovative arguments and unyielding nature; he is not easily discouraged and, during his career, has had rulings against him overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court, helping to reinforce his steadfast nature.
Mr. Sheridan has garnered several awards and accolades throughout his career. He has been included on Minnesota Monthly's Best Lawyers in America list each year from 2007 to 2022 and selected as a Super Lawyer each year from 2006 to 2022. In addition, he was named Minnesota ICON in Criminal Defense in 2021 and Attorney of the Year in 2005, 2009 and 2011, all by Minnesota Lawyer. He was named a Lawyer of the Year in 2013 and 2019 by Best Lawyers in America.
Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Sheridan earned a Bachelor of Science in journalism from the University of Kansas and a Juris Doctor from Hamline University. He also earned admission into the Minnesota Bar, Wisconsin Bar, U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota, U.S. Court of Appeals 8th Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court. He has been a member of the Minnesota State Bar Association, Dakota County Bar Association and National College of DWI Defense, and he is past president of the Minnesota Society for Criminal Justice.
Mr. Sheridan is looking forward to retiring from the law firm within the next three or four years. At that time, there will be new partners in place to help and carry the firm forward to success. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife of 36 years, Melissa Sheridan, and family. Mr. Sheridan is also a commercial pilot and volunteers his flying skills with the Commemorative Air Force to provide history flights and air show appearances in World War II military aircraft.
