With more than 25 years of excellence to his credit in educational leadership, Dr. Tighe has found success as a leader in school administration. In this capacity, he is the executive director of the Arizona School Administrators. Since 2022, he has focused his efforts on promoting excellence in educational leadership for over 1,500 school administrators across the state of Arizona, while also working with legislators, governors, staff and members to shape policy and advocate for public education. Additionally, he is a member of the American Association of School Administrators, the Association of State Executives and several other organizations supporting education and educational leadership.
Also a dedicated civil advocate, Dr. Tighe served as a volunteer emergency medical technician for the Bristol Rescue Squad (Vermont) from 1987 to 2000, was a volunteer with the Surprise Police Department from 2004 to 2010 and with the Cottonwood Police Department from 2014 to 2016. He has also served on several nonprofit boards, including Kids at Hope, the Cottonwood Chamber of Commerce and the Cottonwood Economic Development Council. He's been a member of the American Legion for nearly two decades.
Prior to his current role, Dr. Tighe began his career as a teacher and a principal in Vermont, then moving to Arizona and becoming a principal for the Dysart Unified School District in Surprise, Arizona in 2001 and then was an assistant superintendent for Littleton Elementary School District #65 in 2008. He continued his career as a superintendent for Mingus Union High School District in 2013 and then for the Saddle Mountain Unified School District in 2016 until 2022.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Tighe earned a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and secondary education from the University of Vermont in 1991. He then attained a Master of education in educational leadership from the University of Vermont in 1998 and a Doctor of Education in educational administration and supervision from Arizona State University in 2007. Well-qualified in his field, he is also fully accredited in Human Synergistics' leadership development programs.
In recognition of his excellent work, Dr. Tighe was honored with the Vermont Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award and the ASA Outstanding Doctoral Student Award from ASU. He has given numerous presentations and was recognized for his participation in a Chinese administrative exchange in 2014-2015. Within the coming years, he intends to continue working in his current position until he eventually retires.
