SPOKANE, WA, November 16, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Michael C. Brown has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.
Mr. Brown has earned distinction as the founder and owner of the Spokane Eastside Reunion Association (SERA), a nonprofit organization that strives to sustain the spiritual wellbeing of Spokane through neighborhood ministry and bring restoration and opportunities to the city's Eastside community. Founded in 2012, SERA offers afterschool tutoring, a summer basketball camp and a year-round, 12-week restaurant job training program. From just eight children participating in the program when it launched, the organization has grown to serve a current group of more than 100, with each participant receiving shoes, shirts, complimentary breakfast and lunch, and a $75 stipend to buy school supplies.
During an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Brown distinguished himself as the No. 1 sales agent in Spokane for American Income Life Insurance. He went on to open his own insurance agency, but still did not feel fulfilled. He was inspired to create SERA to make people happy and exert a positive impact on his community. His first project — a community celebration in a local park — was a success and motivated him to try bigger endeavors, such as creating a basketball camp. In 2015, SERA collaborated with a supporter named Shelton Jackson, who purchased a building for Mr. Brown and his team to convert into a restaurant for job training.
Of his many accomplishments, Mr. Brown is especially proud of being a finalist for a Spokane philanthropy award and being awarded a key to the city. His most notable achievement, however, has been bringing smiles to the faces of children when they receive their certificate of completion at the basketball camp and restaurant.
Well-qualified in his field, Mr. Brown holds an Associate of Arts from Spokane Community College, as well as an insurance license. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his three children, one of whom is the president of his organization. Looking toward the future, Mr. Brown hopes to expand his advocacy to other cities.
