Arif Sheikh, MD, Presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award by Marquis Who's Who

Following a successful tenure with several health care organizations throughout the country, Dr. Sheikh joined the Kettering Health Network in Kettering, Ohio, as a medical director in 2021. He is the chief of nuclear medicine/PET for Kettering Network Radiologists Inc. in Miamisburg, Ohio, and a clinical professor in internal medicine and neurology at the Boonshoft School of Medicine at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.

In addition to his extensive administrative responsibilities, especially with regard to establishing the theragnostic program and leading several leadership committees, Dr. Sheikh devotes much of his time to clinical work. To wit, he is presently involved with several radiopharmaceutical therapeutic and molecular imaging trials. He also maintains an interest in the areas of cardiovascular and general nuclear medicine. In 2022, his practice was honored to receive a National Designation as a Radiopharmaceutical Center of Excellence Award. Disseminating his findings, Dr. Sheikh has authored numerous articles in leading scholarly journals ranging in the fields of Nuclear Medicine, Radiology, Oncology and others. He also frequently presents his work at national and international meetings.

Dr. Sheikh previously taught as an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from 2004 to 2015. He subsequently became an associate professor at Columbia University Medical Center in New York City between 2015 and 2017, a clinical professor at Temple University Health System in Philadelphia from 2017 to 2018, and a senior faculty member at Mount Sinai Health System in New York City between 2018 to 2021. Aside from his teaching experience, Dr. Sheikh functioned as a hospitalist at Franklin Square Hospital Center in Baltimore from 2003 to 2004 and worked in tele-nuclear medicine at Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C., between 2004 and 2010.

Throughout the course of his distinguished career, Dr. Sheikh has implemented many novel clinical innovations in the institutions where he worked. He has co-founded and oversaw the Multidisciplinary Thyroid and Endocrine Tumor Board, developed the Targeted Radionuclide Therapy Clinic, served as the director of Cardiovascular Nuclear Imaging all the while introducing advanced clinical imaging as a routine standard of care for patients. Most honorably, he volunteered his time and expertise to the Mariam Clinic in Cary, North Carolina, an outpatient facility that provides free medical and dental care to those that cannot afford to pay.

Dr. Sheikh received a Bachelor of Science at the University of Michigan in 1990 and a Doctor of Medicine at Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1994. Additional educational pursuits to his credit include training in internal medicine at Brown University, Rhode Island Hospital, from 1994 to 1997, and a residency and fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center between 1997 and 2002, where he notably served as the chief resident and chief fellow in nuclear medicine. Dr. Sheikh also received board certification in internal medicine and nuclear medicine, as well as additional certification in nuclear cardiology. He has held medical licenses in several states, and currently holds licenses in Ohio and Indiana. He speaks English, French, Hindu and Urdu.

As a part of his established professional commitments, Dr. Sheikh has been a member of the American College of Nuclear Medicine, the American Roentgen Ray Society, and the Pakistani Society of Nuclear Medicine, and is both a member and chair of the outreach neuroendocrine committee the Society of Nuclear and Molecular Imaging.
