KEARNEY, NE, November 17, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Alfred T. Spain has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on more than five decades of expertise in his chosen field, Mr. Spain has served as a lecturer on aviation systems management and business management at the University of Nebraska at Kearney College of Business and Technology since 2021. Bearing a wealth of experience in aviation, economic development and graduate level education, he is primarily responsible for working in collaboration with a variety of special committees, developing courses on aviation meteorology, and providing academic and flight training for Reserve Officer Training Corps Flight Academy students.

From 1998 until 2006, Mr. Spain earned distinction as the co-founder and senior vice president of operations of JetBlue Airways between 1998 and 2006. Prior to this role, he found success as the vice president of flight operations for Continental Airlines from 1984 to 1998. He previously served as a pilot with Dart & Kraft Inc., T.L. James & Co., the Middle East Division of Oceanic Contractors/McDermott-Dubai and the Sam Thomas Company, where he also worked as the computer center operations manager. Mr. Spain initially worked in education at Louisiana Tech University, where he functioned as an instructor from 1971 to 1972.

Mr. Spain served with the United States Army from 1963 until 1970, during which time he distinguished himself as the chief of flight evaluation on the East Coast in 1970, and as an air controller in Vietnam from 1967 to 1968. Additionally, he held the position of a surrogate unmanned aircraft systems squadron commander with a secret security clearance through the U.S. Department of Defense. Mr. Spain has also committed himself to civic advocacy through his work as a member of his regional chamber of commerce aeronautical review committee during recovery operations following Hurricane Katrina, and on the National Research Council Committee at the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. Furthermore, he has volunteered as an assessment team member with the Joint Planning and Development Office in Washington, D.C.

While coming of age in San Antonio, Texas, Mr. Spain developed an interest in aviation. After relocating to Louisiana, he was introduced to a flight instructor at a nearby airport while attending high school, whereupon he received his private pilot's license. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in aviation and marketing at Louisiana Tech University in 1972, and later received a Master of Business Administration at Concordia University in 1997.

As a commitment to his field, Mr. Spain has maintained his affiliation with several pertinent organizations, including the Aviation Management Advisory Board at Auburn University, the National Association of Corporate Directors, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Navy League of the United States, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the Seaplane Pilots Association, among many others. Furthermore, he has received numerous accolades, including recognition as a senior emeritus through the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the Aircrew Member of the Year via the U.S. Civil Air Patrol in 2018. He also received the Wright Bros Award from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration, and the Bronze Star, the Air Medal for Valor and the Purple Heart from the U.S. Armed Forces.

Though his professional journey has been filled with highlights, Mr. Spain is most proud to have created so many opportunities for those working in the airline industry. He was also gratified to participate in the 50th-anniversary celebrations of Guam's liberation during the Second World War in 1994, which drew 700 veterans. In accounting for his success, he credits his attitude to service in leadership, as well as his intrinsic empathy on behalf of those who work for him. Looking toward the future, Mr. Spain hopes to continue consulting within the airline industry.
