With more than 40 years of experience to her credit in supplying maintenance and construction services for overhead and underground electrical utility distribution systems and industrial electrical construction and maintenance, Mary Garza has found success as the leader of her company. In this capacity, she has served as the Chief Executive Officer for Solar Electric Company, Inc. since 1970. She has focused her efforts on overseeing the staff, ensuring the business is running smoothly and are supplying the best possible service to their clients.
Outside of her primary career efforts, Ms. Garza served as a member of the Small Business Association, the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce de Las Cruces (HCCLC)s, the National Contract Management Association and the Small Business Administration Advisory Council. She is a charter member of her local Better Business Bureau and served on the Board of Trustees of Memorial Medical Center. As a member of the HCCLC, she also served as First Vice President and formerly served as president of the Santa Fe Democratic Women's Club.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Garza completed college courses in business, advertising and secretarial skills. In recognition of her excellent work, she was honored with the U.S. Hispanic Business Woman of the Year Award in 1993 and was named Supplier of the Year by Rio Grande Minority Purchasing in 1994. She was listed in the list of New Mexico's Top 25 Women-Owned Businesses in 1995 and was named Employee of the Year. She also received the U.S. Small Business Administration Award of Excellence three times and Business of the Year from the US Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, she was recognized with the Public Service Company of NM Entrepreneurial Leadership Award in 2001 and the Public Service Company of New Mexico Entrepreneurial Leadership Award in 2002.
Within the coming years, Ms. Garza intends to continue her work and helping her employees support their families. She owes much of her success to her employees and colleagues, recognizing they work collaboratively to care for each other. She strives to provide them with all the resources they need to do their jobs effectively, including insurance, uniforms and bonuses for their dedicated work.
