Shirley Dahl Shipley Shines in the Energy Production Field

Having accrued nearly seven decades of professional experience, Shirley Dahl Shipley is a proven leader in the fields of energy production, education and community engagement.

At the beginning of her professional journey, Mrs. Shipley earned a bachelor's degree from Cedar Crest College in 1954. She went on to pursue a career in education and served as a public school teacher in Radnor Township, Pennsylvania and Sarasota County, Florida throughout the 1950s. In addition to her teaching, she ran for the York Suburban School District Board in the primary election with nine opponents. She came in first place on both the Republican and Democratic tickets, later becoming the first chair and president of the board.

A few years later, Mrs. Shipley transitioned from education to the energy industry upon invitation to join Shipley Energy. A fourth-generation family-owned and operated company, Shipley Energy has assisted residential and commercial customers in all areas of electricity, heating oil, propane, natural gas, fuel and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning services for more than 90 years throughout the northeast region of the United States. Upon seeing the happiness and motivation her husband, William, felt while working at the company, she desired to experience the same professional fulfillment and warm company culture. Notably, Mrs. Shipley has been recognized for her leadership skills as company chairman for over 10 years and vice president for nearly 30 years, totaling more than 35 years with the company.

To remain abreast of her field, Mrs. Shipley is a professional member of the Petroleum Marketers Association of America and the Pennsylvania Petroleum Association. Highlighting her accomplishments, she was recognized with an Honorary Doctorate in 2000. Alongside this achievement, Mrs. Shipley feels particularly honored to have belonged to the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO) in Philadelphia and Florida, a global leadership community of chief executives looking to grow together to improve lives, businesses and the world. With her husband, they traveled the world with YPO, meeting incredible people in each country they visited.

To better serve her community, Mrs. Shipley has been heavily engaged with a multitude of local organizations. Most notably, she spent more than three decades on the board of York College of Pennsylvania in various roles, including as a trustee, executive committee member and chair of its Country Day School. She also served as the board president of the Children's Home, the co-chair of the York Foundation and on the national board of directors of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. Among other contributions to her credit, Mrs. Shipley has been active with the York County Mental Health Center, the York County Literacy Council and the York Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she served as president of the Junior League's York chapter and on the board of the Junior League International for many years.

Looking ahead, Mrs. Shipley looks forward to the continued growth and success of Shipley Energy, as well as her own professional development. A true family business, her son, William III, also works at Shipley Energy. Her daughter Linda is a doctor, and her daughter Elizabeth is an architect.
