Originally intent on becoming a physician, Dr. Garner began his pursuit of a Bachelor of Science in Biology while working as a manager and team leader at Chick-fil-A and serving his brothers in his fraternity, Beta Upsilon Chi. Before graduating from the University of Georgia in 2012, he also worked as a tutor and mentor with student athletes. Subsequently, he gained valuable expertise in the field of healthcare as an insurance broker for Joe Costa & Associates, Inc. Over the years, Dr. Garner discovered that pharmacists could have a significant impact on the medication and patient care aspect of the healthcare industry, which led him to pursue that path instead.
During the early stages of his career, Dr. Garner gained valuable expertise as a pharmacy intern with Kroger and Augusta University Health before earning a Doctoral Degree in Pharmacy from the University of Georgia. Throughout his career, he has expanded upon his education as well, working as a pharmacist with CVS Health, completing a PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency with Centra Health, and completing a PGY-2 Critical Care Pharmacy Resident with UNC REX Healthcare. Drawing on years of pharmaceutical and customer service experience, he presently excels as a critical care pharmacist with Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist.
In order to remain abreast of ongoing changes in the industry, Dr. Garner aligns himself with the Society of Critical Care Medicine, the American College of Clinical Pharmacy, the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists, and the American Pharmacists Association. Due to his considerable breadth of knowledge, he has published research projects on Heparin and Impella protocols and contributed to various presentations. The cornerstone of his success lay in his family's support, his mentors' constant motivation, his eagerness to learn and apply that knowledge, and his successful collaboration with other team members.
