Outside of her work, Ms. Kay-Ostrander contributes to those in her community by providing family and teenage counseling services, and through the local Rotary and Kiwanis clubs. Before embarking on her professional journey, she earned a bachelor's degree in psychology and art therapy from Central College, Iowa. Over the years, she expanded upon her professional knowledge, earning a master's degree in wellness promotion and a master's degree in health administration from the California College of Health Sciences. Similarly, Ms. Kay-Ostrander became an international drug and alcohol counselor and a federal substance abuse professional.
In recognition of her outstanding work, Ms. Kay-Ostrander received the Governor's Award for her Relapse Prevention Program on three occasions and was named Best Family Counselor through Pella Business Community. Though her career has been filled with highlights, she takes pride in her past years establishing site-based counseling for addictions and anger management for teenagers. The cornerstone of her success lay with her wonderful family , who have always been her emotional support. Within the next five years, Ms. Kay-Ostrander aims to publish her writings and continue to travel.
