In this capacity, he is an independent consultant, expert witness and insurance instructor for the Lipshultz Consulting Group. Since 1999, he has focused his efforts on handling insurance issues, including agent and brokers errors and omissions and insurance ethics. Additionally, he is a valued member of the American Association of Insurance Management Consultants and the American Bar Association.
Outside of his primary career efforts, he has spoken at numerous CPCU Annual Meetings, as well as the Maryland Bar Association and the Independent Insurance Agents of Maryland. Over the course of his career, he served as a litigation defense attorney for insurance agents, brokers and insurers and served as outside coverage counsel for the Maryland Automobile Insurance Fund. Also dedicated to civil advocacy, he serves as a legal advisor for the Prince George's County Maryland Boys and Girls Club. Additionally, he has contributed a great deal of authored works to the insurance field, including The Maryland Messenger of the Independent Insurance Agents of Maryland, Inc., The Risk Report of the International Risk Management Institute, Inc., the CPCU eJournal and the CPCU Society's Consultant, Litigation and Expert Witness Quarterly.
Prior to his current role, Mr. Lipshultz began his career as a claims adjuster and liability supervisor with the Insurance Company of North America in 1968 and became a government loan specialist for the Federal National Mortgage Association in 1971. He subsequently was an associate with the firm of Friedman and Lipshultz in 1971 until taking a role as a partner for the Law Firm of Lipshultz and Hone Chartered in 1972. While establishing his present firm, he was also a consultant to the Maryland Insurance Administration from 2004 to 2008.
Among his professional accomplishments, Mr. Lipshultz is proud to have received an AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell in 1991. He received the President's Education Award from the Independent Insurance Agents of Maryland in 1995 and a Standard Setter Award from the CPCU Society in 1998. He was also honored with the George M. Gottheimer Memorial Award for Outstanding Contributions to Insurance Education by the CPCU Society and the Consultant, Litigation and Expert Witness Committee in 2009.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Lipshultz earned a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Washington University in St. Louis in 1967. He then attained a Juris Doctor from the American University Washington College ofLaw in 1970. He earned the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) designation in 1989 from the American Institute for Property and Liability Underwriters, Inc.
He was admitted to the bar associations of the District of Columbia and the State of Maryland in 1972. He was admitted to the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit and the District of Columbia Court of Appeals, among several others.
Within the coming years, Mr. Lipshultz intends to continue his work while continuing teaching and mentoring the next generation of insurance professionals. He teaches many insurance courses involving agent and broker errors and omissions, certificates of insurance and insurance ethics.
