John Brand found success as a professor of English at Quinsigamond Community College, where he enjoyed a career spanning over two decades. He joined the faculty in 1996 and continued to work with students until 2017, when he was awarded emeritus status. At Quinsigamond Community College, Professor Brand was proud to assist students from a broad range of backgrounds in developing literature and language skills, as well as fostering a lifelong enthusiasm for the literary arts. Professor Brand was the Theatre Director and Actor, writing performance pieces for student produced performances at the college.
Drawn to the English language arts from a young age, Professor Brand has also distinguished himself as a talented poet. He studied at the University of Sheffield, earning a bachelor's degree in 1991, and continued his education at Clark University, where he completed a master's degree in 1996. Before entering academia, Professor Brand spent 15 years studying engineering and working in the field. He began writing poetry regularly in the mid 1980's in a creative writing class.
In his retirement, Professor Brand continues to write poetry and looks forward to dedicating more time to his craft in the coming years. He published his book of poetry, Things I Might Have Said, in 2019 and participates in local poetry readings in the Worcester area, making poetry accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds. Among other goals, he hopes to become fluent in Portuguese, anticipating moving to Portugal in the near future.
