He received a Bachelor of Arts in 1972 and, during this time, served as a youth counselor for Youth Pride, Inc. Deciding to dedicate his life full-time to drumming, particularly African drumming, he began his musical career as a drummer and percussionist for the Wo-se Theater for African Heritage Dancers and Drummers in 1975, and remained there for five years. Since 1980, he has excelled as the artistic director for Malcolm X Drummers and Dancers in Washington, D.C.
