Marie Maguire is an accomplished Marriage and Family Therapist specializing in helping individuals achieve their highest potential and helping families to function optimally. She focuses on individual growth within an optimal family environment. With a background in both engineering and business, she brings a unique perspective and skill set to this work. She believes this accounts for the outstanding results she achieves. After earning an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Villanova University and a master's in electrical engineering from Notre Dame University, she began her career with IBM designing computer chips and later as a project manager and test engineer for a helicopter weapons system under contract with the United States Navy. Ms. Maguire then took a position as a professor of electrical engineering at Temple University. Counseling the students and their parents is where she found her calling to help people achieve their maximum potential. She obtained a master's degree in clinical social work from The Graduate School of Social Work at Bryn Mawr College and immediately opened a private practice in marriage and family counseling. A few years later she was co-founder of Caramanico Maguire Associates, Inc., a firm that specializes in helping companies and salespeople grow through overcoming self-limiting beliefs that hold them back. She had now come full circle in using problem solving and systems theory of her engineering background together with her therapeutic skills to help individuals, families and businesses eliminate barriers and function at their highest level.
She is licensed as a clinical social worker and is a board-certified diplomate. She is a member of the advisory board for the Dean of Engineering of Villanova University. She is also certified by the Objective Management Group in the psychological assessment of sales teams and regularly consults with businesses on how to grow their sales team. She is the co-author of two Books on the psychology of selling entitled the Attributes of the Optimal Salesperson and Optimal Selling—Sales Conversations of the Optimal Salesperson.
In recognition of her outstanding body of work, she won a Meritorious Award from the Villanova College of Engineering. Though her career has been studded with standout moments, she takes the most pride in the work she has performed as a therapist.
In accounting for her success, Ms. Maguire credits the nurturing environment she came of age within – through that experience, she developed a caring personality and the ability to connect well with others. Looking toward the future, she aspires to write a book on the subject of therapy, as well as build on the comprehensive family therapy model.
