A respected leader in the LGBTQ+ community, Ms. Bullock is recognized for her expertise as executive director of the Pride Center of Staten Island, a nonprofit organization that provides programs and services to support and uplift the LGBTQ+ people of Staten Island. To her role, she brings a passion for volunteering, nonprofits and Staten Island; she takes pride in contributing to the community, advocating against inequalities, and helping others improve their lives.
Ms. Bullock came to the Pride Center of Staten Island after a 30-year career in sales and operations for Staples; her business acumen enabled her to double the Pride Center's budget within one year of joining the organization. In addition to overseeing the organization's financials, she is responsible for daily operations and programs, managing 17 staff members, leading fundraising effort, overseeing advocacy efforts and building partnerships.
Well regarded for her contributions to the field, Ms. Bullock was appointed by New York City Mayor Eric Leroy Adams to the Gender Equity Commission. She was honored by Staten Island City Comptroller Brad Lander, received the Louis Miller Award from the Staten Island Chamber of Commerce, and was recognized as a Power 100 LGBTQ Player by City & State New York, all in 2022. Previously, she was honored with a Fire Flag from the Fire Department of New York, recognized on City & State New York's list of Power 100 People for four consecutive years, and named an Unsung Hero by the Rotary Club. In addition, she was honored by Councilwoman Debi Rose for Women's History Month.
Of her many career achievements, Ms. Bullock is especially proud of starting a project called Staten Islanders for Staten Island. The program, offered during the pandemic in 2020, set up a system in 100 Staten Island restaurants in which people called the restaurants, paid for meals, and had the meals delivered to the homeless population during the peak of the pandemic. The project earned Ms. Bullock an award from Project Hospitality.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Bullock earned a Bachelor of Arts in sociology with a minor in business administration from Roanoke College in 1988. She completed Dale Carnegie Training, serves as board chair of the Staten Island Nonprofit Association, and is active with CenterLink, the State Island Economic Development Corporation's Women's Executive Committee, and Nonprofit New York.
Outside of work, Ms. Bullock is involved with Eden II, an organization that serves people with autism. Her hobbies include traveling, hiking, and spending time with her spouse and their Welsh hound-and-terrier-mix puppy. Looking toward the future, Ms. Bullock hopes to continue creating visibility for inequities and work on advocacy in Staten Island as well as nationally.
