SAN ANTONIO, TX, December 14, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Henry G. Cisneros has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on more than half a century of experience, Mr. Cisneros is recognized for his expertise as a financial executive and as the former U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Mr. Cisneros was drawn to his profession during the social upheaval of the 1960s; in 1968, as he was graduating with a Bachelor of Arts from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy were assassinated, the Vietnam War was raging, and the anti-war protests and the civil rights movement had caused frustration in much of the U.S. population. Amidst all of this, Mr. Cisneros realized that he could help his country by entering the field of city administration, planning and governance. He went to work for the city of San Antonio and, later, the city of Bryan. At the same time, he attended graduate school, earning a Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree from Texas A&M University in 1970.

As Mr. Cisneros's career advanced, he held roles with the National League of Cities, the U.S. Department of Health Education and Welfare, and as a White House Fellow in 1971 and 1972. Returning to graduate school, he earned a Master of Public Administration from Harvard University in 1973 and a Doctor of Public Administration from George Washington University in 1975. Stepping into the role of elected official, Mr. Cisneros served as City Councilman for the City of San Antonio from 1975 to 1981 and as the city's Mayor from 1981 to 1989. In 1993, he was named Secretary of the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development and developed policies to increase the nation's homeownership rate.

Mr. Cisneros was chairman of Cisneros Asset Management from 1989 to 1993 and served as President of Univision Communications, Inc., from 1997 to 2000. In 2005, he co-founded CityView, a registered investment adviser that has invested in more than 100 real asset projects in 13 states. Today, he serves as Vice Chairman of Siebert Williams Shank, which has managed over $1.4 trillion of municipal bond offerings for the funding of education, housing, health services, transportation, utilities, capital facilities and general infrastructure projects. He is Chairman and Co-founder of American Triple I Partners, a firm that raises capital and deploys it into large infrastructure projects.

Mr. Cisneros is the author of six books. His most recent, "Building Equitable Cities: How to Drive Economic Mobility and Regional Growth" was published in 2017. He is an inductee to the National Association of Homebuilders' Builders Hall of Fame and a recipient of a Common Purpose Award, the Benjamin Franklin Silver Medal and other awards. He has received more than 20 honorary doctorates from leading universities.

Mr. Cisneros is Advisory Board Chair for the Henry G. Cisneros Center for Emerging Leaders at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, Chairman of the Aspen Institute's Latinos and Society San Antonio Task Force, Chairman-elect of the Bipartisan Policy Center, former President of the National League of Cities, former Deputy Chair of the Federal Reserve Bank, and Chairman of the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation. In addition, he sits on the boards of the Terwilliger Center for Housing and the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University. He is a former advisor to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and former Chairman of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce.

Mr. Cisneros and his wife, Mary Alice Perez, are the parents Teresa Angelica, Mercedes Christina, and John Paul, and they have four grandchildren. He attributes his success to his parents, who instilled in him a sense of education and service, and to his wife, who has been endlessly supportive of his community engagement efforts.
