In this capacity, he is responsible for molding the minds of future leaders, conducting daily mass, serving on various committees and performing duties as the diocese of St. Augustine. Prior to this role, Monsignor Boddie was active as a pastor at St. Catherine of Siena in Orange Park, Florida from 2002 to 2014.
Monsignor Boddie initially began his career in ministry as a parochial vicar at St. Paul's Catholic Church and St. Catherine of Siena from 1978 until 1982. Between 1982 and 1994, he continued his vocation in a similar capacity, serving as a pastor at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Green Cove, Florida. Following this post, Monsignor Boddie contributed to the St. Pius IV Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was active in his role as a pastor from 1994 to 2002.
Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Monsignor Boddie pursued an education at Saint Vincent de Paul Major Seminary in Boynton Beach, Florida, where he earned a Master of Divinity and a Master of Theology in 1978. As a commitment to his field, he was ordained as a priest in 1978 and designated as a monsignor by the Chaplain to the Pope in 2021. Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Monsignor Boddie contributes to the Interfaith Coalition for Action, Reconciliation and Empowerment, as well as the Mary L. Singleton Foundation Inc. and serves as a board member on the Warren P. Powers Charitable Foundation and as a vice chairman of the Mayor's Victim Assistance Advisory Council.
Well regarded for his contributions to the field, Monsignor Boddie has been recognized as a Marquis Who's Who Top Professional and featured in the Marquis Who's Who Millennium Magazine. Among his professional accomplishments, he is most proud to have been ordained as a priest on May 28, 1978, in his home parish of St. Pius V and to serve as the first African American catholic priest in the state of Florida. Reflecting on a long career, he attributes much of his success to the Lord Jesus Christ for giving him the strength and grace to encourage students to strive for excellence and help the underprivileged in his community. Looking toward the future, Monsignor Boddie hopes to successfully retire from his full-time work as a pastor of the church but aspires to continue his charitable efforts as an active member of the diocese.
