Hong Zhang, PhD Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Mathematics

Dr. Zhang channels years of expertise into his work with Georgia Southern University



Though his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in applying his knowledge of math and computer science with medical research.

    SAVANNAH, GA, December 16, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Hong Zhang, PhD has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Drawing on decades of expertise in computer science, Dr. Zhang presently excels as a professor at Georgia Southern University, where he has previously served as interim department chair of computer science and interim department chair of information technology. Prior to joining Georgia Southern, he worked in various roles with Armstrong State University, including department head of computer science and information technology and interim department head. Likewise, Dr. Zhang was an adjunct associate professor, professor, and Yamacraw Associate Professor of Computer Science.

During the early stages of his career, Dr. Zhang gained valuable expertise in the field as a research scientist with BIOwulf Technologies, vice president and chief information officer of Horus Therapeutics, and as an associate and assistant professor of mathematical sciences at Indiana Purdue University. Driven to stay abreast of ongoing industry changes, Dr. Zhang aligns himself with the American Mathematical Society, the Mathematical Association of America, and the Association for Computing Machinery.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Zhang earned a Bachelor of Science in computer science from Fudan University in China. Subsequently, he expanded upon his professional knowledge, earning a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, a Master of Arts in mathematics, and a PhD in mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh in 1984, 1985, and 1989 respectively. In light of his vast breadth of knowledge, he co-authored "Computer Graphics Using Java 2D & 3D" in 2006.

Due to his outstanding body of work, Dr. Zhang received first place in several mathematics competitions and won the Andrew W. Mellon Fellowship through the eponymous foundation in 1985 and 1986. Though his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in applying his knowledge of math and computer science with medical research. While hard work and dedication have brought him far, he credits his success to staying in the United States to pursue his research. In the next five years, Dr. Zhang aims to contribute to the healthcare field by utilizing his math knowledge.
