MOUNT SINAI, NY, December 19, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Marquis Who's Who, the world's premier publisher of biographical profiles, is proud to honor Renee Danette Petrola with inclusion in Who's Who in the World. An accomplished listee, Ms. Petrola celebrates many years' experience in her professional network, and has been noted for achievements, leadership qualities, and the credentials and successes she has accrued in her field. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Recently retired from education after more than 40 years, Ms. Petrola taught for Mount Sinai School District, which is a small school district on Long Island, New York. Teaching writing and reading literacy programs to sixth-grade students, as well as various computer programs, Ms. Petrola also held conferences with other teachers and parents and frequently consulted with special education teachers regarding students.

Passionate about encouraging students to become involved in competitive writing and poetry contests, Ms. Petrola enjoyed fostering their creative side. Several of them were recognized with awards for their writing, including two students who received first place in the Walt Whitman Poetry Contest for Anthology. During her career at the district, Ms. Petrola pioneered an outdoor learning laboratory for the fifth-grade students, where they had the opportunity to study the impact of humankind on the environment. Additionally, Ms. Petrola served as a counselor and conflict mediator at her school district and, in her downtime, taught swimming lessons to the youth in the community.

Inspired to become a teacher by her late mother, Phyllis Petrola, who taught elementary school for many years, Ms. Petrola pursued writing when she was very young. She would often use her mother's typewriter to type her written stories, and Ms. Petrola found great satisfaction in completing them.

Since leaving the classroom, Ms. Petrola has dedicated her free time to writing as a self-employed author. Having already contributed several poetry books, which are all available on both Amazon.com and BarnesandNoble.com, she looks forward to publishing several additional books in the future. Ms. Petrola's books notably include "Primitive Dancer" in 2014, "The Healing Tree, Volume 3" in 2015 and "Fragment from the Shadows," which was written in 2016 to honor her mother. She also self-published "Woman on the Edge of Time" in 2013.

Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Ms. Petrola has volunteered her time at area beach cleanups, with several Relay for Life events, for the American Cancer Society, Ride for Life Inc., the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Greenpeace.

Prior to embarking upon her professional journey, Ms. Petrola earned a Bachelor of Arts in elementary education and teaching at Bethany College in 1970, followed by a Master of Arts in liberal studies at Stony Brook University in 1974. Furthermore, Ms. Petrola completed an additional 100 credits of postgraduate coursework. She has been a member of several important organizations relevant to her field. Among them, Ms. Petrola remains active in the Mount Sinai Teachers Association, the American Federation of Teachers and the National Education Association.

Honoring her decades of success in the classroom, Ms. Petrola received the Walt Whitman Excellence in Education Blue Ribbon in 2013 and was previously recognized as the Professional of the Year in Education in 2010. Ms. Petrola was also recognized with a Certificate of Recognition from Elite American Educators and has been included in Who's Who Among American Teachers several times.
