Drawing on years of professional scientific experience, Ms. McLean presently excels as a histotechnologist in the Dermatopathology Department at Oregon Health and Science University. In her role, she prepares tissue samples for microscope slides in order to help pathologists formulate diagnoses and prepares complex testing. Prior to obtaining her current role, Ms. McLean worked for Southeastern Pathology Associates and gained valuable expertise as a laboratory assistant.
In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, Ms. McLean aligns herself with the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the National Society for Histotechnology. An expert in her field, she earned a bachelor's degree in anthropology and pre-medicine from Grinnell College after graduating from Hilo High School. Subsequently, she expanded upon her considerable knowledge by earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Nevada, Reno, and becoming a certified histotechnologist through the American Society for Clinical Pathology.
While her career has been filled with highlights, Ms. McLean is most proud of developing new antibiotic protocols for immunohistochemistry tissue staining. The cornerstone of her success lay in her excitement and willingness to learn, as well as her husband's unfailing support. Within the coming years, she intends to experience the continued growth and success of her career. Ultimately, Ms. McLean aims to obtain more qualifications, continue developing new staining procedures in dermatopathology, and bring Oregon Health and Science University through digital pathology and artificial intelligence.
