Drawing on over three decades of expertise, Mr. Salmon enjoyed a fulfilling career in the thrift store industry. Prior to embarking on his professional journey, he pursued an education at the Allied Technical School in Memphis, where he completed his associate degree coursework. Mr. Salmon has been active as a member of Parkway Christian Fellowship in Birmingham, Alabama.
Mr. Salmon began his career as a television technician for a thrift store in Memphis, Tennessee, after serving as a dental associate in the United States Army for two years. For six years, he continued his vocation in the industry as a manager for various thrift store companies before starting his own thrift store business – America's Thrift Stores Inc., for which he served as chief executive officer for nearly three decades. In this capacity, Mr. Salmon, along with his wife, Lillian Jean (Flynn) Salmon, managed 17 company stores across five states, including Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Tennessee and Louisiana.
Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Mr. Salmon was an active contributor to several charitable organizations, including King's Ranch, Christian Service Mission and Hannah's Home, to name only a few. Among his professional accomplishments, he is most proud to have established and operated one of the most successful thrift store companies in the United States. Likewise, Mr. Salmon is gratified to have raised funds of over one million dollars a year for Christian organizations through community donations and the company's 51 percent of profits that were earmarked for charities from items sold.
In accounting for his success, Mr. Salmon credits the influence of his parents, who instilled in him a strong Christian work ethic. He is also grateful for the guiding light of his Christian faith, which helped lead him throughout his entrepreneurial endeavors.
When he was nine years old, he gave his life to Jesus Christ. Since then, he has received three miracles of healing. He had a visible hernia from infancy. When he was 12 years old, through prayer and the laying on of hands, he received a total healing.
When he was in his 20s, he was healed of bleeding ulcers.
A few years later, he broke a bone in his foot. He limped for about a year. Then, after prayer, it got well in about a week.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Salmon aspires to publish his autobiography titled "Buford."
