TAYLOR, MS, December 27, 2022 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Wes Brown has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. Specializing in music education, Mr. Brown has served as the band director for Water Valley High School since 2021. In this capacity, he is responsible for teaching sixth grade band, seventh grade band, and high school band. These students learn how to read music and play their instruments, in addition to growing their musicianship. Mr. Brown is also responsible for instructing a choir class and teaching music appreciation classes. Prior to embarking upon his professional journey, Mr. Brown studied at the University of Mississippi, earning a bachelor's degree in 2019 and a master's degree in 2021.
To remain aware of developments affecting his field, Mr. Brown has maintained his professional affiliation with the Mississippi Band Directors Association, National Band Association, and the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society. Furthermore, he notably attained the rank of Eagle Scout through the Boy Scouts of America.
A skilled trombone player, Mr. Brown has developed unique teaching methods regarding his music appreciation classes, utilizing Scott Joplin's ragtime music to teach the history of music in the United States. He attributes his success to his high school band director, Kevin Cole, who continues to advise and mentor him, as well as Jeff West, assistant band director at Lafayette High School, who offers perspective on his role as a music educator. Mr. Brown is most proud of seeing his students excel during concert performance evaluations, where they have achieved positive results. Looking toward the future, he intends to increase the number of band participants while maintaining the band's high rating. Mr. Brown's ultimate vision for his band members is to not only perform at a high level but to become better community citizens.
