With several years of excellence to her credit in criminal justice, Ms. Briggs has found success as a leader in corrections. Having worked with the New York Department of Corrections since 2012, she currently serves as a supervisor. Since 2017, she has focused her efforts on protecting incarcerated individuals, directing the activities of correctional officers to ensure inmate discipline, custody and welfare. Likewise dedicated to civic advocacy, she participates in Thanksgiving and Christmas drives, donating toys, school supplies and funds to less fortunate individuals in her community through the Order of the Eastern Star.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Ms. Briggs earned a Bachelor of Science in legal studies, with a minor in criminology, from the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2007. She subsequently received an advanced degree certificate in corrections management from the same institution in 2021. In recognition of her excellent work, she received an award from the National Council of Negro Women Inc. Among her most cherished accomplishments, she is particularly proud to have completed her education, and to have become a corrections supervisor at such a young age.
In accounting for her success, Ms. Briggs credits the influence of her mother, whose independent, professional and resilient nature inspired her to strive tirelessly for her goals. Additionally, her daughter has also served as a great source of motivation. Within the coming years, she intends to continue advancing in her career, including earning a higher position as an assistant deputy warden. She also intends to purchase properties for those who are financially insecure and ex-felons, offering a path toward productivity and a sustainable life.
