An environmental inspector with more than 20 years of experience, Robert E. Baker is highly regarded for his skill as a field archaeologist and biologist.

An environmental inspector with more than 20 years of experience, Robert E. Baker is highly regarded for his skill as a field archaeologist and biologist. Resourceful, analytical and detailed, he coordinates and manages multiple projects and crews of environmental inspectors. Likewise, he is proficient in conducting biological and archaeological surveys, analyzing materials collected and preparing reports of findings.

In preparation for his career, Mr. Baker attended Texas State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in biology and anthropology with a minor in chemistry in 1995. He earned a Master of Arts in archaeology at the University of Texas at San Antonio in 1998 and then transitioned to Colorado State University, where he graduated with a Master of Science in natural resources in 2021. To date, Mr. Baker holds numerous professional certifications. He completed the GIS program at the Birkbeck University of London in 2002 and the wetland delineation training program at the Wetland Institute in 2006. He also completed the FERC industrial compliance training seminar in 2007, NPDES training in 2010, and the FERC industrial compliance training seminar in 2013. Currently, he is pursuing a Doctor of Philosophy in environmental sustainability at Prescott College.

Since 1990, Mr. Baker has contributed his expertise as a staff member with the Maya Research Program through the University of Texas at Tyler. He takes great pride in this research project, which centered around Blue Creek in Belize, a riverine system and a major archaeological site.

In addition to the Maya Research Program, Mr. Baker has worked with the Office of the State Archaeologist as part of the Texas Archaeological Stewardship Network in Austin, Texas since 1993. Simultaneously, between 1996 and 2002, he served as an adjunct instructor in anthropology at Victoria College and Coastal Bend College. In recent years, Mr. Baker has worked as a lead environmental consultant, environmental inspector, and field archaeologist with numerous organizations across 22 states, including Spectra Energy and Enbridge, among others.

Throughout his various projects and professional endeavors, Mr. Baker has overseen inspections and provided consulting services regarding restorations, repairs and monitoring of water bodies impacted by construction following the National Environmental Policy Act. While hard work and dedication have brought him far, he attributes much of his success to his parents and many instrumental mentors, one being Dr. Tom Guderjan, who was the director of the Maya Research Program.

In order to remain aware of changes in the field, Mr. Baker maintains affiliation with the Ecological Society of America, the American Society for Environmental History and the Society for Ecological Restoration. Notably, in 2017, he was inducted into the Golden Key International Honor Society of Colorado State University. Looking toward the future, Mr. Baker intends to complete his doctorate and transition from working in the energy sector to academia.
