Drawing on over three decades of expertise, Dr. Shelton-Brown specializes in welding and metals manufacturing. Since 2021, she has found much success as the vice president of technical development at Welding Outlets Inc., a certified woman-owned manufacturer of quality branch connections, flanges and specialty engineered products essential for emergency purposes in the United States. Prior to this role, she was active as a senior director of stainless and alloy pipes fittings and flanges at MRC Global Inc. from 2016 until 2021. She initially began her career in the metals industry as a process control metallurgist and a test house manager at British Steel, where she served between 1986 and 1996. Following this post, Dr. Shelton-Brown worked as a quality manager at C Brown and Sons Steel Ltd from 1996 to 1998.
Dr. Shelton-Brown continued her vocation serving as a business development manager at Hillfoot Steel Group Ltd from 1998 until 2000, and subsequently, as a process control shift manager at Nitriding Services Ltd from 2000 to 2001. Between 2001 and 2005, she garnered expertise in internal and contract aerospace sales at Amari Metals International and in internal sales for piping products, aerospace contract sales and outside sales for aluminum plates and specialized products at ThyssenKrupp Materials. Following this post, she built a prolific career as an outside account, sales and branch manager at TW Metals Inc. in Europe, Southeast Asia and the United States from 2005 to 2015. Dr. Shelton-Brown was then active as the director of business development for national accounts at Southwest Stainless and Alloy in Houston, Texas, from 2015 until 2016.
Prior to embarking on her professional journey, Dr. Shelton-Brown pursued her passion for welding and started her educational journey at the University of Wolverhampton in England, where she obtained a degree in SMAW, GMAW, GTAW and FCAW. She continued her academic efforts at the University of Birmingham, earning a Bachelor of Engineering in metallurgical engineering, a Master of Engineering in material sciences and a Doctor of Philosophy in metallurgy. As a commitment to her field, Dr. Shelton-Brown has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the National Association of Corrosion Engineers International and the American Society for Metals International.
Long dedicated to civic advocacy, Dr. Shelton-Brown contributes to San Jacinto College, Lee College advisory committee, board member on the PVF Roundtable Charitable Foundation and Houston Community College Foundation. Reflecting on a long career, she attributes much of her success to her passion for her specialty and her perseverance as an immigrant and a female in what is perceived as a male-dominated industry. Moreover, she credits her mentors for her achievements, including her father John Shelton, Ms. Gail Thomas, who was her former Managing Director in the United Kingdom, and her current manager Ms. Sheryl Michalak, the owner of Welding Outlets, Inc, and last but by no means least her husband Adrian Shelton-Brown who has been instrumental in her success for the past 27 years. Looking toward the future, Dr. Shelton-Brown aspires to continually advance within Welding Outlets Inc. and hopes to mentor the next generation of specialists in her field.
