Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. O'Sullivan earned a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering from the New York Institute of Technology in 1984. His interest in independent research culminated with his receipt of a United States Patent in 2004 for the development of a high-performance antenna system adaptable to many applications that was both easily manufactured and low cost. He then attained a master's degree in systems engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology in 2007 and a Doctor of Philosophy in information assurance and cybersecurity in 2019.
While continuing his career at BAE Systems, he is presently conducting research in cybersecurity essential to ensuring robust secure operation of critical communication systems. Within the coming years, Dr. O'Sullivan intends to transition his career to teaching at the college level and to continue his research in cybersecurity. Having always wanted to work in a field that benefits society, he found he had an affinity for engineering and collaborated with a variety of stellar colleagues throughout his career to deploy a variety of defense platforms with advanced radar and communication systems that are still in active service globally. His aspiration is to inspire college students with the same sense of service to society that has motivated him.
