Sophia Edwards-Bennett, MD, PhD, DABR Gets the Star Treatment!

Dr. Edwards-Bennett helps patients overcome cancer, both physically and emotionally

LUTZ, FL, January 12, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sophia Edwards-Bennett, MD, PhD, DABR, known to her patients as Dr. EB, has participated in The Star Treatment, a prestigious video series hosted by renowned lawyer and television personality, Star Jones. This premier video series is extremely limited — Marquis Who's Who qualifies 500 listees on an annual basis for this elite service. Backed by a storied career in media that spans more than two decades, Star works closely with Marquis listees to assist with networking goals and commemorative efforts that can be shared with a worldwide audience.

A highly regarded radiation oncologist, Dr. Edwards-Bennett's goal is to educate, edify and enlighten in the area of cancer education and treatment.

Her interest in science, research and medicine choreographed a path that led to earning her PhD in chemistry at Georgia State University; synthesizing compounds with similar core structure to that of known anti-cancer drugs.

Immersing herself into the constant stream of scientific and medical publications while writing her PhD dissertation, she cemented her interest in medicine, specifically oncology.

Upon entering medical school at Cornell, and shadowing mentors at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, she was fascinated, not only by the various applications of oncology, but also by the aspects of the field of radiation oncology, which included anatomy, radiobiology and radiophysics.

After completing her residency training at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, she commenced clinical practice, spanning the spectrum from academia to private cancer centers, practicing and offering consulting services within the United States and internationally. In the interim, she also completed the Cancer Therapeutics and Research Postgraduate Program at Harvard Medical School.

In her day-to-day clinical practice, Dr. Edwards-Bennett is well-served by her sense of empathy for her patients. She is able to engage not only with her patients directly, but also with their families, to create and foster the support network that cancer patients need to recover most effectively. To accomplish this, Dr. EB utilizes the Big C Re-Attitudes, a play on words combining "the Big C," ascribed to cancer, with the Beatitudes. The mnemonic acronym she coined for the Big C Re-Attitudes is "HIS LAMP." H represents Restoration of Hope, I- Reclamation of Identity, S- Reaffirmation of Self-worth, L- Reappraisal of Life, A- Requited Admiration, M- Rehabilitation of the Mind, and P- Reignition of Purpose. By combining these concepts, patients can gain different perspectives that will help them in their journey through treatment and beyond.

Dr. EB asserts that establishing a connection with cancer patients can be critical in treating them. For many, a cancer diagnosis is possibly the most life-altering news they will ever have received, so she is seeing patients at a very vulnerable time in their lives. She believes that in addition to treating the physical cancer, it is essential to favorably position our patients to contextualize their illness and provide psychological support. Dr. EB employs the Big C Re-Attitudes to accomplish this goal.

However, she cautions, the application of the Big C Re-Attitudes for each patient is different, so this approach must be malleable and adaptive to needs of every patient, and at distinct junctures during and after treatment.

When asked about the present and future state of oncology, Dr. Edwards-Bennett states that she is optimistic; encouraged by the current new developments and those unfolding in the oncology field; forecasting newer, more targeted, less toxic treatment regimens in both medical oncology and radiation oncology.

In particular, in the field of radiation oncology, more sophisticated, precise, advanced technologies that allow for even more ablative treatments are high yield : with better treatment outcomes, low and acceptability toxicity profile. She projects that innovations in the oncology will continue to provide more efficient methods, endorsing advances in imaging and detection, which further complements effective treatment and eradication.

Dr. EB concluded her interview with Star Jones by reciting a piece of prose she wrote, reflecting on one of her late patients Sara, entitled "I See You." The prose is primely selected from her newly released book "The Path to Soul Immunity: $oul Currency for Life and the Big C with Dr. EB."

"When we meet our patients, they present with more than just their diagnoses. They come packaged neatly or disheveled. The pain of the past, coupled with the shock and fear of what's at hand.

Their journey; what their lives entailed prior to their diagnosis and its culmination to the present time.

With all their emotions, like a complex matrix intertwined.

These are the stories of their lives; the ones with which our hearts jive.

The details they share, echoing from their deepest fears.

Their close connections. The lingering regretful reflections and unpleasant repercussions that plague their thoughts, derail their plans and evict all their dreams; begrudgingly ripping control from their hands.

The memory of Sara and my conversations with her family, and all my patients' encounters and lessons pursuant, was a ratification of sorts, of the panoply of interconnected, retrospective inquisitions and realizations.

That is:

Formality does not define professionalism of any kind.

For the human interaction in its geniality is, indeed, the centerpiece of connectivity,

Flanked by the healing tripod of the Mind, Body and Soul.

Thus, moving forward; breaking the mold.

Let this be from our vantage; an enlightened, renewed point of view. The modus operandi of the majority, not just a few.

So that, in our encounters we too can, with all sincerity, say these three (3) powerful words endearingly: "I see you."
