ALEXANDRIA, VA, January 13, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Sharon Marlies Deane has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Drawing on over three decades of expertise, Ms. Deane specializes in project/construction management and exhibit design. Since May 2022, she reconnected to the design and construction industry by taking on the role of senior project manager at SIRIS, LLC. This role allows her to combine her knowledge, skills, and abilities gained from extensive professional experience in the architecture and museum fields in the DC metro area, while excelling as a manager on cultural arts projects such as the recently completed exhibit, "Arts and Ideals: President John F. Kennedy" at The John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts in DC.

Prior to this role, Ms. Deane served as an education director and museum specialist at federal museums and non-profits in the Washington, DC area including the Smithsonian's National Postal Museum, Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, and the Department of Defense's Vietnam War Commemoration office between 2009 and 2021. While pursuing graduate studies at George Mason University, she received a paid internship at a Smithsonian-affiliated museum, The Charlotte Museum of History in North Carolina the summer of 2008. After graduating with a Master of Arts in History in 2010, Ms. Deane focused on museum education as a vocation, with more than 14 years dedicated to the museum field in various capacities. These include her early experience as an art instructor at the Brevard Museum of Art and Science in 2001, and more recently as project manager of a team cataloging thousands of objects for the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.

Ms. Deane initially began her career as a space planner in Northern Virginia, shortly after graduating from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design. Starting as a junior designer for a local design firm, Settles Associates, she was quickly selected by the president of the company to serve as facilities manager on a lucrative project. This led to promotions within the field, including a position at The International Monetary Fund in the Design and Construction Department between 1997 and 2000. From January to May 2001, she completed coursework in archaeology, geography, and history at the Jerusalem University College in Jerusalem, Israel, while working as a library associate on the campus. After returning from Israel, Ms. Deane obtained a position at Navy Federal Credit Union as a field office facility manager, traveling around the country to oversee the construction of member service branches and ATM installations. Following this position, she served as a partner integration manager for the Pentagon Renovation and Program Office, where she had the honor and privilege as a Gold Star daughter to contribute to the memory of loved ones who sacrificed their lives for America and the complete renovation of the Pentagon after 9/11.

As a commitment to her field, Ms. Deane has been active with several industry-related organizations, including the American Alliance of Museums, Mid-Atlantic Association of Museums, the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the National Council for Social Studies, and the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society. Well regarded for her contributions to the field, Ms. Deane has received multiple awards individually and collectively, including the John Wesley Powell Award from the National Park Service in 2017 for an exhibit at the Pentagon, "The Vietnam War," the Distinguished Alumni Award from George Mason University in 2017, the Outstanding Service Award for Exceptional Planning and Management from the Pentagon Renovation leadership in 2005, and many other commendations and awards. Among her professional accomplishments, she is most proud of her work on the various projects at the Pentagon. She attributes her success to collaborating well with her colleagues and to her Christian faith. Looking toward the future, Ms. Deane aspires to expand the scope of her career by advancing to a post of administrative director of cultural projects at SIRIS.
