Prior to his current role, Mr. McDermott began his career working as an underground grunt and then construction supervisor in the cable television industry in 1978. He then became project manager for a new cable tv system build in Loveland, Colorado and assisted in the establishment of a similar system in Anaheim, California and in Mesa, Arizona. He then worked in Houston, Texas until becoming a contractor in Lake Arrowhead, California. Also an accomplished athlete, he played professional baseball for the St. Louis Cardinals in Minor League Baseball until he sustained an injury. He also played in other areas nationally and internationally, including Washington, Alaska and Canada.
