Locally known as a successful farmer and entrepreneur, Mr. Erickson presently owns three farms where he grows cash crops such as corn and soybeans. Raised on a farm, he originally worked alongside his late father where they managed approximately 1,000 acres. However, after his passing, Mr. Erickson now owns just 300 acres, which is known as David Erickson Custom Harvesting.
Mr. Erickson has also been overseeing Erickson Excavating LLC in Whitehall, Wisconsin, for nearly three decades. Established in 1994, he is proficient in both equipment and technology and in the oversight of municipal utilities and street construction. Among a myriad of responsibilities, Mr. Erickson notably bids on prospective jobs, retains bonding, serves as a project estimator and collaborates with subcontractors and engineers to ensure that jobs are being run smoothly.
During an earlier stage of his career, Mr. Erickson was a flight instructor between 1982 and 1984. Under his tutelage, 15 individuals became licensed pilots. Mr. Erickson also worked for Heileman Air Services Inc. as a captain and served in the corporate sector, where he crewed aircraft for a multitude of corporations, including Reinhart Foods Ltd., Ovation Marketing, the Mayo Hospital, Ashley Furniture and the G. Heileman Brewing Company. Additionally, Mr. Erickson served as a first officer for American Eagle Airlines at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, where he interacted with 64 passengers on the aircraft daily and garnered significant experience in crew resource management.
As part of his established commitment to civic endeavors, Mr. Erickson notably owns his own helicopter, which he uses for farming and search and rescue missions. He also owns a retired military plane, a 1952 T28-B a United States Air Force and Navy Trainer, which he displays at airshows, and flies over local sporting events, as well as veteran funerals/memorials, among other events. Moreover, Mr. Erickson frequently donates to his local fire department and animal shelters. More recently, he also became active in public service as the town chair for the Town of Pigeon, Wisconsin, in 2017.
Mr. Erickson attained an Associate of Arts in aeronautics at Gateway Technical Institute, followed by a Bachelor of Science in business administration at the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1982. He holds a commercial pilot's license, a private pilot helicopter's license, a commercial driver's license and a utility contractor's license. Mr. Erickson is a professional member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association and the EAA Warbirds of America, which is a division of the Experimental Aircraft Association in Oshkosh, Wisconsin.
To commemorate his accomplishments, Mr. Erickson received a Citizenship Award in 1979 and a Recognition Award for Services from John Deere in 2018. Mr. Erickson aims to receive recognition from the Federal Aviation Administration for 50 years of flying without any incidents in the near future.
