Sharon Evans Oster, MD Recognized for Excellence in Health Care

Dr. Sharon Evans Oster was honored with an America's Best in Medicine Award by the American Health Council in 2019



She is best known for her contributions to public health during the height of the AIDS epidemic.

    BOISE, ID, January 16, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Sharon Evans Oster has been included in Marquis Who's Who. Distinguished as an expert in internal medicine and infectious diseases, Dr. Sharon Evans Oster has been a dedicated physician for more than four decades. She is best known for her contributions to public health during the height of the AIDS epidemic.

To prepare for her career in the medical field, Dr. Oster earned a Bachelor of Science with distinction from the University of Colorado and a Doctor of Medicine from East Virginia Medical School in 1980. She subsequently underwent an internship with Riverside Regional Medical Center in 1981 and a residency at East Virginia Medical School in 1983. The same year, she joined the Martinez Veterans Affairs Medical Center, where she completed a residency and fellowship by 1988. During her residency, she was honored with the Resident of the Year Award, along with a House Staff Achievement Award.

Following her academic accomplishments, Dr. Oster commenced her career working with John Muir Hospital Walnut Creek, Sutter Solano Hospital Vallejo and Brookside/Tenet Hospital San Pablo through 1999. Simultaneously, she served as an infectious disease consultant for Doctors Hospital, where she would later serve as chief of the infection control committee for eight years. From there, she became involved with the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, enterococcus antibiotic resistance and new antibiotic trials, leading her to work at the AIDS clinic at the VA Clinic Martinez/Oakland from 1985 until 1995. Following this period, Dr. Oster transitioned into a role as a hospitalist and served as a co-chairman for Tenet Hospital San Pablo for one year. She additionally offered her expertise to the classroom as an assistant professor of medicine at the University of California, Davis from 1985 to 1989.

At the turn of the century, Dr. Oster worked with Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center through 2006. Since then, she has excelled as a physician and the owner of her practice, Oster Medical Group, in Boise, Idaho. Displaying expertise in the areas of internal medicine and infectious disease for adolescents, adults and seniors, Dr. Oster's daily responsibilities include practicing all aspects of internal medicine with a sub-specialty in infectious disease. Alongside her primary work, she devotes time to teaching and providing training to medical students and has contributed to and authored multiple journal articles. To remain aware of advancements and changes in her field, she remains an active member of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

To commemorate her career accomplishments, Dr. Oster was honored with an America's Best in Medicine Award by the American Health Council in 2019. Attributing her success to her demeanor, alongside accepting and embracing the arduous and investigative nature of internal medicine and infectious diseases, she strives to consistently listen to patients to ensure she is providing their best possible care. Likewise, Dr. Oster credits the influence of her father, who she recalls held vast scientific knowledge in atomic energy and propulsive devices.

Outside of her main career path, Dr. Oster exercises her creativity as a flutist, having performed with the Capital City Mulligan Band and the Canyon County Symphony Flute Orchestra. Known for her contributions as a civic-minded citizen, she is the founder of Flock Walk for Cancer, which she spearheaded in 2021, and is involved with the Rocky Mountain Pus Club, a group of infectious disease practitioners from Washington, Idaho, Utah and Montana. Furthermore, Dr. Oster is a regular donor and volunteer with her local YMCA and volunteers at local events administering Covid-19 vaccines. As the owner of a historic home, she is involved with the Idaho Historical Society.

A humanitarian at heart, Dr. Oster is highly regarded for committing her time, skills and knowledge to a Genesis Mission in India. Likewise, through her practice and work in infectious disease, she aids refugees that have relocated to Boise. Looking toward the future, Dr. Oster aims to continue to help educate the public regarding the Covid-19 pandemic. Eventually, she plans to ease into a well-deserved retirement and spend time traveling.
