Priyalal S. Wijewarnasuriya, PhD Celebrated for Dedication to the Field of Semiconductor Physics

Dr. Wijewarnasuriya channels years of expertise into his work with Teledyne Imaging Sensors

MOORPARK, CA, January 25, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Dr. Priyalal Wijewarnasuriya has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process. Dr. Wijewarnasuriya celebrates more than 30 years of expertise in the infrared physics field and dedicated in demonstrating novel, large format focal plane arrays for tactical, strategic military applications, weather and as well as for astronomy applications using very highly sensitive infrared mercury cadmium telluride material.

Drawing on years of expertise in semiconductor physics, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya presently excels with Teledyne Imaging Sensors, which specializes in infrared detectors and sensors, the improvement of infrared devices, and program delivery and management. During the early stages of his career, he gained valuable expertise in the field with Rockwell Scientific Company in California. Similarly, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya dedicated himself to his country through the U.S. Army, where he specialized in improving infrared cameras so that military personnel could see during the night.

In order to remain abreast of changes in the field, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya aligns himself with the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers through which he organized the Optics and Photonics in the Infrared Sensors and Devices Area Annual Conference. Before embarking on his professional journey, he earned a bachelor's degree in physics (first class) from the University of Colombo in Sri Lanka. Subsequently, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya received a master's degree in semiconductor physics from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a PhD in semiconductor physics from the University of Illinois, Chicago.

Throughout his career, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya conducted considerable research on the "dislocation reduction in mercury cadmium telluride infrared material grown on larger area scalable silicon substrates," which earned him an award from the U.S. Army. He has also obtained patents for the method and system for waveguide thermophotovoltaic power generation and authored/co-authored more than 300 technical publications in the open literature. While his career has been filled with highlights, he takes the most pride in producing the most sensitive infrared detectors and sensors that are being utilized by well-known institutions and agencies. He also has acted as principal investigator for number of high-profile NASA's space-based weather satellites programs such as NPOESS-CrIS, VIRS, GOES-ABI etc. Within the next five years, Dr. Wijewarnasuriya aims to experience the continued growth and success of his career.
