Nandani Maria Sinha Recognized for Excellence in Nonprofit Organizing

    PASADENA, CA, March 18, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nandani Maria Sinha has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Ms. Sinha has earned distinction as the founding executive director of Music Heals Minds, a nonprofit organization that specializes in the use of therapeutic music intervention for individuals living with Alzheimer's disease or traumatic brain injuries. In this capacity, she is responsible for scheduling, creating programs and finding appropriate singers for 20 memory care facilities across Los Angeles and three abroad, and engaging with the health care community as an advocate for dementia research and advocacy. She collaborates with memory care facility activities directors, neurologists, gerontologists, music therapists, Alzheimer's Association and the National Association of Certified Dementia Practitioners to create programming that engages and provides cognitive exercises.

Among her accomplishments, Ms. Sinha is most proud to have availed herself on behalf of those with neuropsychiatric conditions. She first became involved in the field due to the plight of her father, who struggled with dementia and responded well to music.

Since then, she has taken immense pride in serving as a musical channel for dementia and Alzheimer's patients, and to have such a profound impact on their quality of life. Ms. Sinha also serves as a board member at the Milken Institute Alliance to Improve Dementia Care, which seeks to bring together a multi-sectional coalition of leaders to spearhead research in the detection and treatment of those suffering from dementia.

Outside of her work in the nonprofit sector, Ms. Sinha has received international acclaim for her performance as an opera singer, and has appeared with the Los Angeles Opera, the Long Beach Opera, Opera Santa Barbara, the California Philharmonic, the Redlands Symphony and the Malibu Coast Chamber Opera, among many others. As a soloist, she has performed at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City and with the Franz Liszt Chamber Orchestra in Budapest, Hungary. Likewise, she has presented recitals and operas throughout the world in England, France, Austria, Germany, Spain, Italy, Mexico, Canada, Botswana, Namibia, and South Africa.

Known for her contributions as a civic-minded citizen, Ms. Sinha has maintained involvement as a teaching artist for school education programming with LA Opera and LAUDS and collaborative Music as Medicine projects with such organizations as the Alzheimer's Greater Los Angeles, City of Hope, Urban Voices, the Street Symphony Project, Rancho Los Amigos and Los Angeles Children's Hospital, Cedar-Sinai, White Memorial Hospital, USC Keck School of Medicine and UCLA Health. She is a LA Opera Teaching Artist and co-creator/instructor for a COVID-19 "long-haulers" course for UCLA Health-LA Opera Connects, a program that has garnered prestige and national recognition. Furthermore, she has designed music curriculum and recitals for the Los Angeles Opera and other companies.

Having taken up singing at the age of nine, Ms. Sinha initially studied at medical school before pivoting fully toward music. She attended the Juilliard School from 1997 until 1999 and received a certificate in music performance. Following this accomplishment, she studied further at Wells College and at Cornell University, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts in music performance 2003, cum laude. Ms. Sinha went on to undertake vocal performance coursework at California State University, where she received a Master of Music in 2011.

After, the field of medicine found its way back into Ms. Sinha's career with her newly sparked advocacy for therapeutic musical interventions, she undertook further training in a variety of disciplines. To wit, she was certified in the Emotional Freedom Technique - a method that can be used as a therapeutic stress reduction approach - by the Tapping Training Institute, as a yoga instructor by Yoga House, and in Traumatic Stress Studies by the Trauma Research Foundation in 2021.

Noted for her achievements in the field, Ms. Sinha has received numerous accolades across the span of her career. Among them, she was lauded by the Franz Liszt International Competition in 2014 for the Best Vocal Interpretation of a Work by Franz Liszt, and as the first-prize winner of the competition in 2012. She was also a winner of the Hollywood Opera Reading Club Vocal Scholarship Competition, won two scholarships from the Opera Buffs and Celestial Opera organizations, and was granted a Friend of Music Scholarship by California State University. Likewise, Ms. Sinha was recognized as a Marc and Eva Stem Fellow at Songfest in 2013 and 2014.
