Hailing from a multifaceted background in real estate, finance, the energy sector, and defense, Mr. Gibbs continues his endeavors as the Owner/Broker of the Advanta Realty Group, where he has served as the Broker since 2008. Previously he earned distinction as a Broker/Associate and Office Manager with Sotheby's International Realty from 2004 to 2008, and as a licensed Broker Associate at Pitts & Bachmann Realty between 1996 and 2004. During this time period Mr. Gibbs was recognized by the Santa Barbara Association of Realtors for his work and representation of market statistics, including a monthly column regarding market trends in the Santa Barbara News Press, as well as many articles and presentations to the Santa Barbara real estate community. Previously Mr. Gibbs worked as a real estate agent at Jackson-Temple Realtors in Vienna, Virginia, specializing in commercial & investment brokerage, and as an insurance agent at Shenandoah Life Insurance from 1993 to 1995.

Prior to his work in real estate, Mr. Gibbs worked in finance with several organizations, including as the Principal at Management Consultant Associates from 1994 to 1995. During this time, he also served as an associate of the International Money Management Group in Beltsville, Maryland, and at Asset Management and Finance Planning Services in Burtonsville, Maryland. Throughout this time Mr. Gibbs maintained his involvement as a member of the Institute of Certified Financial Planners and the International Association of Financial Planning, earning the professional designation of "CFP."

Mr. Gibbs previously worked in government service on behalf of the U. S. Department of Energy, during which time he served in the role of Laser Program Manager, beginning in 1981, and supported some of the early basic laser development of technology, most recently demonstrated in the National Ignition Facility at the Lawrence Livermore Laboratory. At the Department of Energy, Mr. Gibbs ultimately served in the position of Principle Deputy/Acting Director of the Superconducting Super Collider program in the early 1990's. During the intervening years, he held positions of increasing responsibility as a Special Assistant to the Under Secretary, Principle Deputy/Acting Assistant Secretary for Environment, Safety & Health, and the Policy Director of the Office of Policy Coordination for the Secretary of Energy. Well regarded for his scholarly output in these roles, he notably has contributed several articles to professional journals, including the Journal of Applied Physics, and distinguished himself as an inventor in the field with an explosive-driven gas dynamic laser Invention Disclosure Award during the years he worked for the U.S. Navy in the field of high energy lasers from 1967 to 1977.

Before embarking on his professional journey, Mr. Gibbs studied at the University of North Dakota, from which he attained a Bachelor of Science in 1965 and a Master of Science in 1967.

During this period of service to the Navy, he also was nominated and graduated as a civilian from the Naval War College, "With Highest Distinction" in 1975. Following this accomplishment, he also earned a Master of Science from the University of Southern California, in Systems Management, in 1977.

Among his most cherished accomplishments, Mr. Gibbs is most thankful for the opportunities to have worked and contributed to such a wide variety of fields, and the professional positions with their attendant responsibilities and accomplishments – especially in public service.
