THE PLAINS, VA, February 02, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Nigel Roberts has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After a 30-year career with The World Bank, Mr. Roberts retired and founded Strategies for Stability LLC in The Plains, Virginia. As a conflict consultant, he relies on his extensive tenure in the industry to provide his expertise to various governments and NGOs worldwide. Some of Mr. Roberts' more recent work has included appointments as a senior research associate at the Overseas Development Institute in London in 2021, as a senior adviser to the U.S. Congress-mandated Afghanistan Peace Process Study Group in 2020, and as the chair of the UN Secretary-General's Advisory Board for the UN Peace Building Fund from 2015 to 2018.

An expert on the economic aspects of political stability, Mr. Roberts was initially recruited to The World Bank in 1981 through the Young Professionals Program as an agricultural economist, in which capacity he worked in several East African countries, including Kenya, Sudan, Somalia, Uganda, and Comoros. Before he joined the World Bank, Mr. Roberts worked for Voluntary Service Overseas in Thailand, and for the Britain-Nepal Medical Trust and Save The Children Fund in Nepal. Mr. Roberts was also employed as a news reader and analyst for Radio Hong Kong TV and as a beat reporter for the South China Morning Post.

Mr. Roberts has edited a book on agricultural extension as well as contributing a number of articles on conflict management to professional journals. He is best known for the WDR, which has helped many aid agencies and governments develop conflict prevention and recovery strategies for insecure environments.

Highlights of Mr. Roberts' career included initiating negotiations between the Israeli government and the Palestinian Authority during Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip in 2005 - a process that culminated in the Agreement on Movement and Access brokered by U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in early 2006. Mr. Roberts has also been involved in negotiations between India and Nepal, and between governments and rebel groups in Myanmar, the Philippines, southern Thailand and Ukraine. He also served between 2014-16 as the principal donor delegate to the Somalia National Financial Governance Committee.

As a child, Mr. Roberts grew up in Malawi, Gibraltar and finally Hong Kong, where his father, Sir Denys Roberts, served as the territory's chief secretary and chief justice.

Mr. Roberts holds a BA and MA in English language and literature from the University of Oxford, and an MPhil in agricultural economics from the University of Reading in the United Kingdom.
