Daniel Stonewall Anderson, MD, MACP, has been Inducted into the Prestigious Marquis Who's Who Biographical Registry

Dr. Daniel Stonewall Anderson is recognized for his expert leadership of the California Colorectal Cancer Coalition and the Southern California Permanente Medical Group



He has just been named a Master in the American College of Physicians in December, 2022.

    SAN DIEGO, CA, February 03, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Daniel Stonewall Anderson, MD, MACP, has been included in Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

Leveraging more than four decades of excellence in gastroenterology, Dr. Anderson has earned distinction as a leader in his field. From 1984 until his retirement in 2018, he was a gastroenterologist for the Southern California Permanente Medical Group, advocating for colorectal cancer screenings and performing diagnostic and curative procedures for his patients. He is a founding Board Member of the California Colorectal Cancer Coalition (C4) which was established in 2007. He is a valued member of the American Gastroenterological Association. He also contributed numerous published articles to the field, currently "Advancing Health Equity for Medicaid Beneficiaries by Adding Colorectal Cancer Screening to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Adult Core Set" published in the journal Gastroenterology in 2022.

Dr. Anderson served in the United States Navy for 20 years, first as a midshipman, then as the Weapons Officer and Senior Watch Officer on the USS Lester (DE 1022). After his Weapons Officer assignment, Lieutenant Anderson was assigned to the University of Arkansas Medical School for post-graduate training. After graduating first in his class from the University of Arkansas Medial School, Lieutenant Anderson was assigned to the Naval Hospital San Diego. Dr. Anderson completed his residency in in internal medicine and his fellowship in gastroenterology in 1977. He then continued his career on the medical staff of Balboa Naval Hospital San Diego. In 1979, he was promoted to Chief of Gastroenterology and Director of the Gastroenterology Fellowship Training Program Naval Hospital San Diego. In 1984, after 20 years active duty with the United States Navy, Dr. Anderson retired from the Navy and joined the Kaiser Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG). In 1986, he was appointed Chief of the Internal Medicine Department of Kaiser Hospital and SCPMG San Diego, a position he held for 18 years.

For the past 40 years, he has been actively involved in the teaching of gastroenterology fellows from the University of California San Diego and the San Diego Naval Hospital as a Volunteer Clinical Professor of Medicine at the University of California San Diego.

Outside of his physician duties, Dr. Anderson served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Southern California Permanent Medical Group and was Chair of the Colorectal Cancer Screening Guideline Development Committee.

He is a member of the Executive Committee of the California Dialogue on Cancer and was the Chairman of the Executive Committee for 5 years. He is a member of the Moores Cancer Center's Community Advisory Board.

In 2008, he started Project Access San Diego Super Saturdays which were modeled after Operation Access in San Francisco in collaboration with the San Diego Medical Society Foundation and Kaiser Health Plan. Through this program, he was able to provide free outpatient surgical procedures and colonoscopies to the low-income and uninsured population of San Diego County, California.

Dr. Anderson worked on policy issues as President of the BOD of C4 by co-sponsoring California Assembly Bill 342, which removed cost-sharing from the colorectal cancer screening process. This was achieved after a successful effort to have the US Preventive Services Task Force change its colorectal cancer screening guidelines in 2021. Dr. Anderson worked with many collaborators to add colorectal cancer screening to the CMS Medicaid Core Adult Quality Measures in 2022.

Prior to embarking on his professional journey, Dr. Anderson earned a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Oklahoma and a Master's Degree in renal physiology from the University of Arkansas.

Dr. Anderson is board certified in Gastroenterology and Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Dr. Anderson was named the Southern California Permanente Medical Group San Diego's Outstanding Partner of the year in 2007. He received a Public Health Champion Theme Award from the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency in 2012 and a St. George Award from the American Cancer Society in 2017. More recently, he was awarded the National Colorectal Cancer Roundtable Distinguished Leadership Award for his work to add colorectal cancer screening to CMS Medicaid's Adult Quality Core Measures in November, 2022.

He has just been named a Master in the American College of Physicians in December, 2022.

Dr. Anderson intends to continue promoting colorectal cancer screening which will decrease suffering and death from colorectal cancer. Dr. Anderson is an avid tennis player and cyclist. He hopes to be named the best grandfather ever.
