SAUGUS, MA, February 03, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Virginia Grace Rooney has been inducted into Marquis Who's Who. As in all Marquis Who's Who biographical volumes, individuals profiled are selected on the basis of current reference value. Factors such as position, noteworthy accomplishments, visibility, and prominence in a field are all taken into account during the selection process.

After four decades in banking, Mrs. Rooney retired as a branch manager and assistant treasurer at Eastern Bank in 1998. Hired during the 1960s, she quickly rose through the ranks from a teller position to a branch manager. In addition to her many responsibilities of managing every aspect of the bank, Mrs. Rooney was also involved in sales.

Originally founded in Massachusetts in 1818 as a savings bank, Salem Savings Bank was eventually renamed as Eastern Bank and was reorganized into a mutual holding company. It also acquired several local banks and continued a massive expansion over the next few decades. Having spent more than two decades at Eastern Bank, Mrs. Rooney was involved in many internal changes, including when her branch became the first bank to open on Sundays during the early 1990s.

Prior to joining Eastern Bank, Mrs. Rooney briefly worked for State Street Bank as a bookkeeper from 1959 to 1964, which is where she notably met her husband, Joe, to whom she has been married for 60 years. Although she did not complete her schooling, she did attend Williams College where she pursued coursework in banking. Mrs. Rooney attributes much of her success to her hard work and her mentality of never saying no to challenges.

Civically, Mrs. Rooney was heavily engaged with the Lions Club of Medford where she earned recognition as the second female to ever serve as the organization's local president. Through the organization, she has also participated in a significant amount of charity work. Additionally, Mrs. Rooney has been very active by volunteering her time at area food pantries on Saturdays.

More recently, at the age of 80, Mrs. Rooney passed her black belt test at Grand Master Soon Woo Hong's Sun Taekwondo Academy in Danvers. After initially taking kickboxing classes, she transitioned into Taekwondo with the aspiration of becoming a black belt. She accomplished her goal in just three years. Mrs. Rooney is now a First Degree Dan, remains involved in competitions, and has also won several medals. She looks forward to continued success in martial arts.
