Hailing from nearly six decades of experience in his chosen field, Prof. Klemm has distinguished himself as a professor at the University of Central Florida (UCF). Bearing a wealth of expertise in the area of condensed matter physics, he initially joined the faculty at UCF as a research professor in 2007, made tenure as an associate professor in 2015, and was promoted to the rank of professor in 2017. Throughout this time, he has lectured students on the subjects of condensed matter physics, advanced quantum mechanics and quantum field theory, and served as a supervisor for several graduate-level students over the course of their doctoral studies.

In addition to his work at UCF, Prof. Klemm functioned as a visiting professor and instructor at several prominent academic venues, including Kansas State University, the University of North Dakota, the University of Tsukuba, the University of Notre Dame, Northwestern University, the University of California at San Diego, the University of Hamburg, Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia, to name only a few. His first tenured professorship was held at Iowa State University, where he worked from 1976 until 1982.

Outside of his service in education, Prof. Klemm has earned distinction as a scientist and technician at a variety of institutions, most recently including the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden, Germany between 2001 and 2003. Previously, he worked at the Argonne National Laboratory in Illinois as a technical staff member and scientist from 1990 until 2000, and contributed in a similar capacity during the preceding two years at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee and the Ames Laboratory in Iowa. He also built a prolific career at Exxon Research and Engineering Co. as a physicist from 1982 to 1986, having initially entered the field as a research technician at the Synvar Research Institute in California in 1969.

Well-regarded for his scholarly prowess, Prof. Klemm is most proud to have discovered superconductivity in the first truly layered compound, TaS2(pyridine)1/2. He illustrated his findings through his dissertation, which formed the basis of the first volume of "Layered Superconductors," a book published in 2012 by Oxford University Press that expounds upon the chemistry and physics of all layered superconductors. Greatly influential in its field, the book is notably cited by colleagues on a routine basis, and Prof. Klemm is currently in the midst of writing a second volume. He has also contributed to the writing of over 110 articles that have appeared in professional journals, and has spoken at approximately 70 conferences and symposia throughout the world, including in the United Kingdom, China, Korea, Japan, Germany, France, Sweden, Pakistan, Slovenia and Taiwan, among many others.

Prof. Klemm first sought a formal education at Stanford University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in physics in 1969. Following this accomplishment, he continued to study physics at Harvard University, from which he received a Master of Arts in 1972 and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1974. Prof. Klemm went on to undertake a postdoctoral fellowship at Stanford from 1974 until 1976.

In accounting for his success, Prof. Klemm credits the influence of his father, a chemist and professor in his own right. As a small testament to his myriad contributions to the field, he was bestowed with a CertifIcate of Recognition for his work as an outstanding referee by the American Physical Society in 2008. He has also received numerous grants for his research, including from the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and the National Science Foundation, and has patented several discoveries and ideas, such as the intercalation of TaS2 with organic molecules and a method to increase the output power of a Josephson STAR-emitter.
